Have seen more nominated films this year than any year I can remember (thanks, COVID!).

Trial of the Chicago 7
Nomadland
Mank
Sound of Metal

All were good. The first three were the best of the bunch. But, in a normal year, I wonder how many of these get oscar nods?

I've seen four of the eight nominees and liked Promising Young Woman best.

My son asks what the other three you saw are?

Apparently Nomadland is the overwhelming favorite

I don't really get the love. Played more like a good documentary for me.

Speaking of docs, watched Collective last night, nominated for Best Doc and Best International Film.

My two observations were I don't have as much patience for subtitles as I did when I was 21, especially for a doc, and no way am I going to a club show in Romania.

I rewatched Ferris Bueller’s Day Off for the first time in decades... I think I have seen bits and pieces over the years

Some of it has dated badly.. not PC... on the other hand it is sort of a reflection of wasp culture and that’s the way it was..

Still very very funny though...Charlie Sheen is so good in his role

I can remember seeing this as a 15 year old at the movie theater around Menlo Park and just loving it so much...

Speaking of Charlie Sheen, I learned that 18 yr old Soleil Moon Frye lost her virginity to 29 yr old Charlie.

I learned that in Soleil's surprisingly good doc, Kid 90.

Everytime I watch that movie I think what an asshole Ferris is.  Shitty friend.

Anyone want to add to their already depressing mental state,  then definitely watch this.  Holy shit.

ehhh... this "documentary" needs a companion film that corrects all the alarmism, scientific inaccuracies and truth-stretching.  the movie was made to back up the maker's initial beliefs and conclusions.  it's mostly right (we are in fact trashing the oceans and over-harvesting what's left), but for the love of poseidon don't go quoting anything from this movie without verifying it first.

If it’s mostly right not sure what the big problem is... or why you discredit it

I am tired of this bothsidesism always finding fault with everything if it’s mostly right

Examples: all politicians lie (eh, some like 99% of time and some 5%)

The media can’t be trusted cause they are biased (I will trust CNN over Fox News any day)
