Funny how something becomes a "crock of shit" so quickly when someone misses out.
I think it is a dumb system irrespective of whether you miss out or not. Is it not enough to buy the new record in your preferred format? Why should it have to be bought through one particular vendor? I like to have the CD, artwork etc and go to the show

Then, you don't get access to a password for one of the two pre-sales occurring. *shrugs* There were other bonus items attached with purchasing the album via the iTunes Music Store, though, so it really depends on the person and their preference.

People will always complain about pre-sales regardless of who is offering the tickets. But I think it's lame to ask for someone to give up a password and then when denied, start to pout.

Right.
You mentioned the iTunes pre-sale is over (unless I'm confused on that too). So, where is the password for next Thursday's pre-sale? (Too bad I'm out of town for his Charlottesville shows.)

If I recall correctly, they offered the same option via Amazon.

Actually, the iTunes pre-sale happens this Thursday, August 2. The next pre-sale is next Thursday, August 9 and the password is right here on his site.

To clarify:  "How does he go from Sonar last year to Constitution Hall this year? Its frustrating to see him in a place like that."

The usual progression, as ability to draw crowds increases, often goes something like this:  Friend's Party -> Galaxy Hut -> Iota/RnR Hotel -> Black Cat -> 930 Opener -> 930 headliner -> Patriot Center/Constitution hall -> Verizon center.
The step between Sonar and Constitution Hall is what I'm missing.

I doubt he'll ever play Verizon Center. Did you also notice that the Sonar show sold out pretty quickly? You just got lucky that he played Sonar. He could have played DAR at that time, but chose not to. Big acts *want* to play small venues sometimes, it's a fact.

Hey...Smashing Pumpkins just played the 930...will you be surprised if they play DAR next time around...?

Well I saw Ryan play the store window of Schoolkids Records in Chapel Hill and at the Brewery in Raleigh back in '97, as well as hanging out at the bar at the Old 97's show at Local 506 in Chapel Hill the same year. So fuck y'all.   :p

Will Sheryl Crow make a special guest appearance at his show?

Your theory on progression is somewhat flawed as it ignores that some people will never play smaller venues thanks to good connections, opening for a larger band and gaining that fanbase, etc.

With regards to Ryan, I'm guessing you weren't around or into him when he's played the 9:30 several times over the years? All of which have sold out within a couple of days, if not minutes?

Or in the line that snaked outside Iota. Or at Whiskeytown's show at the Bayou in Georgetown.
