hello 1995.
in case you wanna go back a decade but stay local in DC:

Everclear W/Jonny Lives and Big City Rock
Santa Fe Cafe, College Park, MD
 Fri, 10/13/06

 and speaking of old:

 Veruca Salt
 Jaxx Nightclub, Springfield, VA
 Fri, 10/06/06 [/b]
Doesn't Veruca Salt still have enough indie cred to play inside the city limits? Velvet Lounge, DC9, Red & The Black, Warehouse, hell even Talking Head or Sonar in Baltimore but don't banish them to the burbs just yet [/b]
No, they don't. The new band is quite horrible, and only has one of the original members. Needless to say, not nina gordon. Exit Clov opened for them in Pittsburg last year and while we didn't stay for their set the soundcheck was horrendous.

Of all people, since when does having fans in the suburbs connote "less indie".

Though you're right, they never had indie cred, I'm sure most of the folks at JAXX will be the same who hit the American Idol tour....

I wasn't implying that; I believe the other guy was.

I don't think I know a single song of there's, but I'm willing to wager many of their fans are people like me who are now 30+, and perhaps have moved to the burbs.

Much as I loathe to ever do so, I agree with Rhett.  I think Veruca Salt's audience consists largely of mid-90s college grads who live in Fairfax/Centreville and work for AOL out at Dulles.

Not that there's anything wrong with that....

Uh, hey.  I'm a Veruca Salt fan too.

But I didn't even know they were playing.  Nina Gordon's solo stuff was pretty much crap, and I stopped following it from that point on...how can the band even progress without her?  No wonder they are playing Jaxx.

Not that I really give a shit, but isn't Good Charlotte really big now? Why are they an opener? Hell, I'd think just the chance to see Hillary Duff would be a big draw for the tweens.

I'll bet you've heard "Seether", but may not have known it was V.S.

New album coming out Sept 16 -- one song's on  myspace.  I like it...

Perhaps not. I tuned out anything "alternative rock" after about 1993. Unless you count stuff like Uncle Tupelo and the Bottle Rockets as alternative rock.

I haven't heard them on KEXP, or any classic rock stations that I sometimes listen to.

and dupek has never heard a Radiohead song (i know, much less likely, but still)

its funny how some people on here claim to be so discerning and musically knowledgable and tasteful, yet they claim to have never heard songs from many bands.

so i suppose rhett hasnt ever heard any songs by Candlebox, Silverchair or Seven Mary Three either?
