Bloc Party!? What the hell are they thinking...That is odd... [/b]
i dont think so.  sure, maybe their music sounds a bit different, but Bloc party and Panic! are the two biggest mega-hyped Indie bands of the last year or two. and they are mostly the same audience i'd say.

in fact, I like Panic! better than bloc party.

I have never heard songs by Candlebox, Silverchair or Seven Mary Three, to the best of my knowledge.

I do have recollections of some crappy music. For example, I once saw Soundgarden and Living Colour together at a tiny upstate New York in 1988. I was there to see Living Colour, and actually liked them at the time. Never liked Soundgarden.

I actually have heard Radiohead songs though. I even liked the Bends and Ok Computer (a friend made me copies on cassette way back then), and what I've heard off of his solo album I've liked. And that Creep song, Yorke is making millions off of it selling it to the Rock Star INXS and Supernova shows.

I haven't heard them on KEXP, or any classic rock stations that I sometimes listen to.

and dupek has never heard a Radiohead song (i know, much less likely, but still)

its funny how some people on here claim to be so discerning and musically knowledgable and tasteful, yet they claim to have never heard songs from many bands.

so i suppose rhett hasnt ever heard any songs by Candlebox, Silverchair or Seven Mary Three either? [/b]

I don't think I know a single song of there's, but I'm willing to wager many of their fans are people like me who are now 30+, and perhaps have moved to the burbs.

Of all people, since when does having fans in the suburbs connote "less indie".

Though you're right, they never had indie cred, I'm sure most of the folks at JAXX will be the same who hit the American Idol tour.... [/b]
[/b]
I wasn't trying to start a burbs vs city shit storm, and my definition of "indie cred" at least in this instance was that they'd be playing a smaller venue, slighter more discriminating crowd, kinda in the same vein if Nada Surf, or the Posies came through town. Not that there's a similarity to those two bands.  Though sans Nina G. the last time I saw them (Black Cat 2000/2001?) wasn't THAT bad, and I'd go see them if they played at a metro accessible venue, I just don't want to drive somewhere, where there's essentially nothing else to do other than drive back.

i wonder how long the list of bands rhett has never heard songs by really is?  for a guy who talks constantly about how "discerning" his taste in music is, it seems like you havent really even heard a lot of bands.

perhaps you have some other generalizations of bands you've never heard's fans?

or some more reviews of live shows you didnt go to?   i am starting to think you talk out of your ass 100% of the time, instead of the previously assumed 60-70%.

do you think aging and moving to the suburbs is like some natural progession of life and maturity or something?  or does the city kinda just kick you people out after a while?

As I said, I pretty much tuned out "alternative music" after about 1993, and listened mostly to country and old jazz.

I just hated all that angsty overwrought 90's grunge music. I've heard Alice in Chains, STP and Pearl Jam. The rest of the bands are going to sound simliar to a non-fan...just at the Bottle Rockets and Uncle Tupelo are going to sound similiar to you.

ok, so what category do i fall in, to you, for you to assume that i wouldn't be able to distinguish the Bottle Rockets from Uncle Tupelo?

I thought you had professed a distaste in the past for alt-country. If I have you confused with somebody else, I offer my humble apologies. Sometimes it's tough keeping up with individual music taste of cyber persons, many of whom I've never met.

Not that I really give a shit, but isn't Good Charlotte really big now? Why are they an opener? Hell, I'd think just the chance to see Hillary Duff would be a big draw for the tweens. [/b]
Good Charlotte headlines this and 10/22 Sonar show.  Not that I care (except about the Hillary/Haley Duff sightings).

Sonar seems to have the exact same shows every 6 months to a year.

Thinking about going there for the first time, as the Long Winters are playing there with no DC date.

I'm not one to advocate violence, but sometimes you have to appreciate the "Karma" when talentless kiddies mess with the classics.....

Panic! At The Disco frontman bottled on stage
It's an eventful start to the Carling Weekend: Reading Festival
Panic! At The Disco frontman Brendan Urie was hit by a bottle seconds into his band's set on the Main Stage at the Carling Weekend: Reading Festival this afternoon (August 25).

Playing opening song 'The Only Difference Between Suicide And Martyrdom Is Press Coverage', the singer was struck in the face by a missle thrown from the crowd.

Urie immediately collapsed to the floor, forcing his group to stop the song.

The singer was then surrounded by his bandmates and roadies for several minutes before he managed to get back to his feet.

"You can't take me out," Urie shouted to the crowd, before adding "Lets see how well you guys do with my left side."

Panic! At The Disco then continued their set, picking up the opener at the exact point where they had suddenly stopped.

The rest of the group's set passed more sedately including the likes of 'I Write Sins Not Tragedies', 'Camisado' and Radiohead cover 'Karma Police'.
