The National
 Mercury Lounge
 NYC
 6/16 & 6/17

Merc Lounge is tiny - I think it's only about 250

 Get 'em while you can:
  Mercury Lounge Calendar

I picked that weekend randomly & I'll get to see both Bloc Party & the National while I'm there. I must have been very nice in a previous life to deserve such good fortune.

actually, yes... i needed the announcement on the thread, because I generally just go straight to the messageboard rather than through the website home page, so i saw it here first, then checked the main page after the fact

My fan club number is 70xxx (don't remember exactly) and I've never done worse than third row. Been front row center at quite a few shows, too. I would figure that 86555 would get you front row, especially for the Canadian shows.

We decided to pass on the Canadian tour. The last tour (VfC) was so disappointing. Even front row tickets aren't worth the trek. We're going to Hillside in Guelph instead. Cheaper and better.

Hmmm...I feel almost opposite. I think they just keep getting better & better.

The VFC show I saw in Toledo was explosive (with Neil Young). If they had come back out for an encore and played Masters of War & Evolution I figured it would have been my favorite all-time seeing them (out of 10+ - including mid-nineties).

They are much better musicians now - McCready is probably the most under-rated guitarist in rock. The addition of Matt Cameron on drums has been a huge influx of talent - like godzilla keeping time. NOBODY out there can produce a live bootleg that sounds like they do - even minutes after the show. Their live boots sound like they've compiled & re-mastered an entire tours worth of prime bits.

That's my rant for the day. You may now go back to your regularly scheduled reading.

Those that rave about Weezer should not cast disparaging remarks.

I saw 100+ bands last year - including SXSW, Coachella, Curiosa (Pixies, Radiohead, Wilco, DBT, Cure, Interpol, Bowie, Prince) NONE were better than those "boring" Pearl Jam songs.
