For the hip hop fans in here, the J Dilla Tribute is coming up on July 9th at The Black Cat.

J Dilla Benefit Concert
The name J. Dilla conjures up a spirit of creative genius to many. This unsung Grammy winning producer achieved a genuine level of greatness bestowed to only a few Hip-Hop legends and trackmasters like DJ Premier and Pete Rock. His body of work includes classics for heavy hitters like A Tribe Called Quest, Common, Busta Rhymes, De La Soul, Eryka Badu, The Pharcyde and on and on. J Dilla had suffered for over three years with an incurable blood disease, and had also been diagnosed with lupus. He passed in February 2006. The Annual J Dilla Tribute is a musical testament to the enduring influence of his music. The past 4 years have featured J Laine & The Players reproducing Dilla's music flipped by DC heros like Raheem Devaughn, Wes Felton, Wayna, Kokayi, Kev Brown along with Dilla-centric special guests like Slum Village, Dwele, Pete Rock, Talib Kweli and Phife. So join us as we carry on tradition while raising funds for the Dilla & Lupus Foundations.
