I think people love the 9:30 because it's often the first club that bands of that size arrive at where the staff and promoters and things all clearly care about the band. They feed you at load in! They make cupcakes for you! There's a decently clean backstage! After touring small, grody venues, the 9:30 can feel like a homecoming.
