Coachella 2009

The Smiths???  My hotel is booked!

 From NME:

Speculation has renewed that The Smiths may be on the verge of reforming.

According to a report in The Sun today (October 24), the four original members are close to signing a deal that would see them performing at the Coachella festival in California next year.

It is suggested that Morrissey's new manager - former MCA records boss Irving Azoff - has been instrumental in the proposed deal.

A source is quoted as saying: "It has looked impossible in the past but suddenly it all looks like it could happen. The buzz around the people who used to work for the band is they could play Coachella for a ludicrous amount of money.

"It's closer than it's ever been. The split was a messy affair, but time's a healer."

there is also chatter about radiohead headlining one night, but i haven't been able to tell if it's based on anything or if it's just wishful thinking.  they'll be touring in latin & south america just before coachella, so it's not impossible.

I cannot fathom the insanity that would be this show. People will travel all over the world for this one. You could basically have Coachella be just the Smiths. Nobody else playing would really matter. People sometimes forget how rabid the average Smiths fan is. And they better have a different kind of barricade than what they normally have, Morrissey will get trampled by stage crashers.

I hope this happens.  Johnny Marr deserves the chance to be reunited with his songs and his awesomeness.

Irving Azoff also manages GnR and I see him also orchestrating a true GnR reunion.

Johnny Marr is easily one of the most talented songwriters/musicians alive. He's a genius.

yes, smith fans bring the crazy.  but i just don't see "There Is a Light That Never Goes Out" whipping a crowd into a frenzy the way "Bulls On Parade" or "Killing in the Name" do.

regardless, it would be a crazy show and one that i'd be at  :D

Ah oh well. I think The Sun had the original article on them reuniting, so go figure.

I'm still going to coachella  no matter what though.

I'm still convinced that for all of Morrissey's saying he'll never do it, catch him at the right moment and he'd do it. Ultimately he'd still get adored, and even though he's a good businessman and done well solo, he'd still crumble. He can argue all he wants that the other guys aren't his friends, but the right manager could probably get him on board for one more show or tour.
