Love the new Ex album....new singer is tamer than G.W., though....plus there's Harvey Milk at Sonar.

Also that night is Cough at St. Stephens Church (you can forget the rest, including Magrudergrind).

The Ex are one of my favorite bands.  I didn't want to compete with that show, but we're on tour, so what can you do?  I emailed Terrie Ex to get on that show, and he told me the Black Cat already had an opener, and what do you know, it's a band of ex-Dischord people.  Yawn.

Cough is good but that will be an earlier show.  Fuck Magrudergrind...most overrated grind band around.  And they're whiny as hell.  I never understood how they got so big.

Screen Vinyl Image/Plums/Buildings are at Artisphere, but you could see any of those bands any month in the year.

SPRCSS should rate more than a "yawn". They were fantastic when I saw them last month with Office of Future Plans. Much better than a run of the mill throw-away opener. Their dual guitar/female durmmer action is a perfect compliment to The Ex as well. I'm excited they were added.

That said, sorry to see Luger is the same night as The Ex. I'm always on the look out for interesting music out of Spain.

Oh, I like SPRCSS fine; in fact, I'm good friends with one of them.  My "yawn" was directed more towards the blatant Dischord nepotism that is perpetuated within the Black Cat year after year.  Is SPRCSS a suitable opener for The Ex?  Sure.  It's also predictable.  You probably think I have a chip on my shoulder, and you're right, I do.  I once tried to book Kinski at the Black Cat and it got turned down for an Antelope show.  And Damo Suzuki got spurned for some other ex-Dischord band back in 2007.  Their loss...both shows ended up selling out.

Oh, I hear you and agree with you on that finer point!

Did the Kinski show end up at Warehouse Next Door by any chance? That was a fun one!

Yeah, that was Kinski/Ostinato/Kohoutek at the Warehouse in 2005.  One of the most fun DC shows I saw.

I'm interviewing Andy Moor tomorrow. I planned on asking him if he is going to perform with DJ/Rupture on the tour. I'll let you know what he says.

Azaghal, Rotunda shows do not run too late. We're trying to start as close to 8:30 as possible.  I don't think the show will run later than 11pm.

Following up - Andy Moor said no on-stage collab with DJ/Rupture when I asked him on Sat.

Grails and James Blackshaw ending up at the Blowtel rather than Avant Fairfax is sickening.
