xcanuck says it best regarding Ash... had the bravery been on in the middle i would have given them a fair listen.  however, Ash did a great set and the Bravery promptly killed the buzz for me. so it was homeward bound for me.  their first song has potential but it was spiraling downward very quickly...

i ALWAYS feel this way at black cat ... the way the room is designed doesn't do a good job of pulling you into the experience if you're in the back of the room [/b]
I don't think it's the Black Cat, there really isn't a lot of music that's being made these days that's beyond merely good and truly exceptional.  Also I don't know how old you are, but the older one gets, the less easily impressed one is.  This is both good and bad... it's a bit like heroin, you don't get the same rush from it anymore, but you're still searching for that perfect high.  Or so they tell me, anyway.

Ambulance LTD headlined.  VHS or Beta's website definitely claimed they were headlining though.

Ah, thanks Chutney.  Now, Kaiser Chiefs question -- I enjoy "I Predict A Riot" a lot (though I can see it growing old....or not).  But, does he really say "It's not very pretty I tell thee" in order to get the rhyme?  That is, well, blech.

until about 8 am yesterday morning, the black cat had ash listed as the headliner.

all the tickets are listed as just ASH, no bravery, just ash. ie, ash is the headlining band.

Good point Lily...tickets only say Ash..that said, who knows if Ash opted to let the Bravery close the show in front of their "hometown" crowd..that would've been a nice gesture from them and not something totally impossible..

according to the black cat staff, tour management decided to change the lineup last night. not the club. and from the way the woman told me, she was none too pleased about the arrangement of bravery being the headliner.

Well, for me, it's the fact that standing in the back of the room at the Black Cat doesn't "pull me into" a show like standing in the back at 930 Club does ... it's pretty obvious why, BC is just a shotgun room ...

Has nothing to do with the quality of the music being played.

Thanks Bags!  I've been lurking a few weeks, I'll try to get in the game...

It seems safer to complain about presales if people recognize you.  Though I'm 1 for 1 so far (Ben Folds) so nothing to complain about yet.

Dude, please tell me you made that up, before I gag.

Some peeps have been spraypainting Anarchy signs and anti-capitalist slogans all over Dupont Circle and Shaw and you just *know* that they're without doubt a) rich high school kids from the suburbs or b) rich college kids living large off mommy and daddy's capitalist careers.

just a question - i do music stuff for DCist.com and we were thinking about doing a "reaction from the blogosphere" type post about the ash and the bravery show. would people here mind if some of your opinions were excerpted in our roundup? with credit and links back to the forum, of course.

if not, no big deal - but some good mini-reviews were written here and i'd like to highlight them!

hmmmm, interesting little conversation

despite having a ticket I never made it out last night for a variety of reasons - sounds like a missed a great, albeit brief set by Ash
