hey be proud of being the voice of dissent...

and i will fully admit to being too harsh on the bravery.  had they been middle, or had i heard the album beforehand, or if it wasn't a school night. they might  have gotten a warmer reaction.  but they killed my post Ash buzz and i voted with my feet.  :p

if not, no big deal - but some good mini-reviews were written here and i'd like to highlight them!
You can quote me predicting a headline change

thanks, everybody! the post should be up within an hour. i couldn't quote everybody, but "blogosphere roundups" is something we might do again in the future, so i'll definitely head back here for more opinions.

Or some folks call him "smackass" -- that's my favorite.  The elusive and inimitable smackass strikes again!

knowing there's a small chance our message board posts may lead to worldwide fame, I'll devote more effort to composition in the future.   :)

Thank you ladies.  I'm in a much better mood now that I spent my lunch at the beach in the 89 degree San Francisco sun.  It's hard to work under these conditions.

 DCist should have read:

Dead sexy Smackass from the 930 forum, who prefers the barely legal crowd (volume 18 is still legendary), claims he can tell when hype will take over quality musicianship weeks in advance.  He claims those lucky enough to grab a ticket to the sold out Bravery/Ash show shouldn't have been surprised to see Ash perform before the Bravery.

"Look, indie's the new black and with TiVo, the kiddies no longer have to stay home to watch The Bravery on 'The OC' on a Thursday night," said the irreverant Smackie. "Not when you can catch them in your local music venue now that owners are bragging in the local rags about being all ages.  What did you expect?"

"It's unfortunate for a band like Ash," the elusive smackie continued, "finally given the opportunity to headline and they get beat down by the same hype they so richly deserve.  'Meltdown' [Ash's most recent UK release] has been out for how long in the UK and the Bravery's new album hits the States first?  It's a crime.  We'll see who opens for whom two years from now when the hype is over."

When offering his opinions on last nights epsiode of "The OC" and the new Star Wars Episode III trailer that followed, DCist politely declined, much to Smackie's dismay.

'Meltdown' [Ash's most recent UK release] has been out for how long in the UK and the Bravery's new album hits the States first? It's a crime.
Fact check: 'Meltdown' was released on Tuesday. The "Headliner's" junk ISN'T EVEN OUT YET... doesn't drop 'til March 29. (I am in no way promoting this garbage by mentioning the release date).

As someone pretty upset about the switch last night (I tried announcing to the crowd that the show was over when Ash finished... but sadly not everyone listened), I think it's pretty ridiculous that a band WITHOUT AN ALBUM yet gets to headline a show from a band that's been around for over a DECADE. But these are the days of internet leaks... the good with the bad. Hype is a dangerous thing.

Oh and this is fun... The Bravery (at least the vocalist... perhaps more) began as umm... Ska band SKABBA THE HUT. But hey... that fad died out and now we're dealing with the rise (and fall) of dancerocksynthdance. SO HELL... at least they're adapting.

Here's a little sound byte of a Skabba song for all the Bravery completists out there. Gotta get in touch with the roots!

'Fat Guy On My Head' should fit nicely next to 'An Honest Mistake' and 'Unconditional' right?

If anyone has any idea how to find out who managed the tour (or who made the decision to switch headliners) I would love to send a strongly worded letter (and a xerox copy of my ticket stub which reads "ASH").

Thanks for the correction.

I bought a UK double-disc copy of Meltdown sometime ago (like May or June) and never really new exactly when the US version was coming out, just that it was going to be a while after the UK release.  And "a while" is an understatement.  I thought the Bravery UK release had dropped on Tuesday, but alas, wrong again - it's this Tuesday (Mar 14) and Mar 29 in the states, as you pointed out.

Nonetheless, the underlying points are unchanged:  Hype, hype and more hype dictated last night.  And that's sad, worse yet, unfair to many of you that bought tickets hoping to see a full Ash set.

I went for the special edition import as well after the label that put out 'Free All Angels' folded.

Didn't think I'd get it here but hell... b-sides and a DVD. Plus the packaging is a hell of a lot better than the plastic slip case crap from the import.

That they signed to Record Collection is perhaps one bright spot in all of this. The timing was of course terrible and they lost all of the momentum here that they had worked so hard to build, but at least they're on a label that seems like it will be good for them. The backing/promotional power of a major but with the good sense that it takes to rep a band like The Walkmen (I think they've done a great job working that second album of theirs and hope they do similar work for 'Meltdown').
