I think Vampire Weekend is a lot better than CYHSY. I think the more apt comparison would be to compare them with Tapes 'N Tapes. The two bands have a kinda similar sound, I think, and both got major blog exposure prior to their first album being released.

i don't know who they are the next... but am willing to bet that major bunching and twisting of clothing will occur if someone gives them a negative review of their upcoming live show..

I'm not going, but I'll volunteer to do the review.

if we keep this thread going for a few more pages, would vampire weekend be the new smashing pumpkins?

i think the CYHSY comparison is spot-on, personally, as i don't think either band is all that great and don't understand why either one generated that much buzz.  maybe i'm just getting old.

Funny...These are the exact same reasons why I'd compare them to tapes n tapes. (not much a fan of CYHSY either).

My first exposures to these bands have been on late shows. CYHSY played "In This Home On Ice" on Conan. I liked it and got the CD, which was good but not great. Later, I noticed that the chord changes in "Home On Ice" seem identical to those of George Benson's arrangement of "Breezin'" (anybody else hear this?). TnT played on Letterman and to me seemed like an "indie band in a box," not an original lick in sight. VW was on Letterman recently and were enjoyable, enough that I might pick up the disc.
