I can tolerate southern markets like Tampa Bay and Anaheim and Carolina winning Stanley Cups. And heck, I even respect Anaheim because Niedermayer, Selanne, and Giguere are class players. But -- and I am not exaggerating one iota -- seeing Chris Pronger lift the Stanley Cup last year was the only moment in hockey history that ever made me feel sick. I, literally, threw up in my mouth a bit. Despite his talent, he's indefensibly human garbage.

let's fuel some more hatred:

   as if he makes the rules around here or is in any position to judge.  then again, as a caps fan he would be very familiar with the term "weak" so maybe he is well-placed for such assessments.

I remember seeing the Wings plays at the Caps in (I'll guess) 2002 and I turned up by the dumbest Caps fan in history. He was really overweight and wearing a Capitals beret and even though the Wings were up 4-0 in the second and the crowd was easily 50% Wings fans, he just kept going on and on loudly about how Detroit was a "garbage franchise" (we were the defending Cup champs and had won the most Cups of any American franchise) and kept going on about how the Wings wished they played in a venue as good as MCI Center.

I finally had enough and yelled the few seats over if he'd ever been to JLA and what was so terrible about it, and he said the "sight lines" were poor and you couldn't see anything. So, I just went "Yeah, you're right: every time I go to Joe Louis I can't follow the game -- I'm too distracted by our 10 Cup Championship banners... good thing your WNBA attendance record banner isn't as g-----n catchy." Whole section of mostly Wings fans busts out laughing and then it was open season with people ripping him. Best line some guy had: "Washington -- first in liberty, first in justice, third in the Southeast division!"  I'll give Beret guy credit, though, he kept mouthing off and attempting to yell over the PA announcements of Wings goals.

 ---

I also remember seeing the Wings in Carolina 2 or 3 years ago and being in the men's room at intermission, and this guy in a Wings jersey walked away from the urinal and headed for the door. This real redneck looking guy in a Canes jersey goes, "'Scuuuuuuuse me, Yankee, but in Care-ohhh-lina they teach us to wash our hands after we use the bathroom." Mild chuckling throughout the bathroom. Wings fan just keeps going, doesn't look back or turn his head at all, but during his last steps out the door, says calmly, "In Detroit they teach us not to piss on ourself."      :D

tsn.ca is reporting Pronger is getting suspended tomorrow.

Quote
Pronger waived his right to an in-person hearing in favor of a phone hearing.

Traditionally, the type of hearing usually speaks to the number of games a player can be suspended. The phone hearing normally means four games or less, while an in-person hearing means five or more.

By waiving his right to an in-person hearing, Pronger acknowledges his suspension could be more severe than the phone treatment usually determines.

Writing Tips
 Respect Your Audience

A writer who wants to lead an audience towards a conclusion must refrain from clipping on a leash and pulling too hard. Being human, the audience is likely to resist being told what to think unless already perfectly in tune with the writer's thinking ... and how often does that happen?

A writer who is very close to a subject being written about may fail to notice that the facts presented are open to alternative interpretations. If the writer's interpretation is presented as the only logical or only possible view, readers whose interpretations differâ??possibly a considerable majority of the audienceâ??could be irritated, or offended, or worse. As Sherlock Holmes said, in A Study in Scarlet, "I ought to know by this time that when a fact appears opposed to a long train of deductions it invariably proves to be capable of bearing some other interpretation."

Techniques to Use and to Avoid
A good approach is to lay out the facts in the most logical and cogent manner possible, then trust the reader to draw the appropriate conclusions. This technique is particularly applicable to fiction writing, in which character and setting are demonstrated by description, conversation, and situation. One hallmark of a less-developed fiction writer is dependence on narrative that bluntly tells the readerâ??in a sentence or twoâ??what to think of a character or living space, instead of providing evidence to draw the reader to the desired conclusion in longer descriptive or situational passages. For example, rather than say "The Smiths had low-class tastes", the writer might describe how the Smith family's house was decorated.

When conclusions must explicitly be stated, make sure that the presentation is neutral and respects the independence of the reader to take them or to leave them. Trust to both your power of persuasion and your audience's common sense.

Avoid making value judgements based on certain facts or conclusions. Values are best judged by each reader independently. For example, a newspaper story leads off with the statements: "Students at Smith High School achieved the highest test scores of all the high schools in town. The school is also consistently rated "better than most" by a majority of its graduates." Do not follow up by a statement such as: "Smith High School is the best in the city." The question that is sure to be asked is: "Best at what?" Smith may be the best academically (or maybe it is simply located in an affluent neighbourhood). Maybe other schools have better remedial reading programs, sports participation, or drama and chess clubs. Value, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder.

Avoid placing the reader on your side of an us-versus-them statement: "We now can see that....", "We recommend that...." Statements like these vaguely imply the superiority of the "we" (author) who is dictating to the "they" (reader). Rewrite the statements to emphasize the benefits of agreeing with the conclusions or advice being presented. For example, rather than use "We recommend that the Whizzbang be placed on a hard, flat surface", try "For best operation, place the Whizzbang on a hard, flat surface."

 When to Force the Issue
Finally, ignore most of the preceding advice when writing cautions or warnings about hazardous materials, products, or processes. In these cases, you must be blunt and explicit about the hazard; you must ensure that the reader will understand the consequences of failing to heed the good advice being provided (value judgement); and you must emphasize the credibility of the "we" (expert) who is giving advice to the "they" (assumed novice) by stating credentials, as appropriate.

Awwwww. Looks like somebody is feeling left out. Don't worry I have some tips when you need a little attention.

Don't hate. You need a little 'LOL'! Those crazy lolcats always provide me with a little boost to get through the day. I NEVER get tired of them, unlike the lame, I mean weak, posts from Pen-tards.

I think I see his balls! LOL!!! LOL!!!

Prediction: I predict using 'Prediction:' at the end of a post doesn't create an invisible force field that will block my judgment. And you are weak.

I remember when I worked for the Porsche dealer in Arlington and Joey Juneau (sp?) brought his Porsche in to be fixed for the third time. Chris Simon followed him in as his ride home. Juneau was a big guy but "for the love of God" Chris Simon was the most intimidating individual I've ever seen in my lifetime.

I shook hands with them both but when I shook hands with Simon it was literally like me holding my 5 year old son's hand.

Celebrity death match Pronger v Simon....who's your money on?

Simon all they way for me.

Great, great stuff. Very happy to save them for future installments of the hugely popular game show: Who's Your Daddy

What other sports franchises have been dominated over the years like the Caps have been humbled by the Pens?

The Penguins are 12-6-4 without Crosby this season. He missed 21 games after hurting his right ankle in January, came back and played in three games, but then missed Wednesday's 7-3 home win against Buffalo because of ankle soreness.

Why does looking at that photo give me the urge to say "Howdy John-boy"?

I hear ya Shemp - It's amazing how they step up & it really shows the completeness of that team.

Hopefully Hossa plays tomorrow v. the Flyers.
