Yes, this is increasingly common. Lollapalooza always has a pre-announcement sale price, and Pitchfork is doing the same thing this week too.

I feel like 2017 will be a relatively weak festival year in general. But I still thinks this has some gold in the undercard that other fests won't.

GAS, This is not This Heat, Front 242, that weird Johnny Greenwood India project to name a few.

relatively, sure, but it's in no way horrible.

aphex, magnetic fields, front 242,  bss, saint etienne, the whigs, shellac, skinny puppy... pretty sure i'd figure out some way of having a good time at this ;D

Agreed, which is why I specifically used the word relatively and qualified it as to what it is weak compared to. I also think 2017 is shaping up to be a less-than-stellar festival year from what we've seen so far.
