Looking for a new beer spot...looks like Norm's Beer & Wine (http://www.normsbeerandwine.com/index.html) might be the closest fit to Rick's.  Kind of a drive for me...anyone been/have experience/etc?

More hate for this year's batch. I hate to say it, I'm not surprised.

http://www.beergeeknation.com/admin/bells-hopslam-most-dissapointing-of-2013-beer-geek-nation-craft-beer-reviews/

more disappointment: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9rRUnIrzTfI claims that both on tap and bottle (1/03/13) suck.  i'm definitely not spending any money on this year's batch.  at that price, i'd be beyond pissed to only get an average (at best) IIPA.

Wow just went to Georgetown Birrreria with the family. $3 for 12 oz pours of Stone Enjoy By. Can't beat that.

Picked up a sixer of Hopslam. Because I had to. $21.99 at Total Wine (compare that to $8.99 for Sucks). Ouch. Also a sixer of Nugget Nectar, $11.99.

Damn I have alot of hoppy beer to drink quickly. Three Floyds Zombie Dust and Alpha King, Ska Modus Hoperandi, Firestone Walker Double Jack, Stone Enjoy By, Sierra Nevada Celebration, Lagunitas Sucks, Green Flash Palate Wrecker, Two Brothers Can and Ebel, Fatheads Headhunter IPA, Troegs Nugget Nectar, Bell's Hopslam, and Sweetcell IPA. Not to mention Dogfish Burton Baton, Sierra Bigfoot, and a bunch of other hoppy barleywines that i'm aging!

At $22 a sixer there's no chance I gamble on Hopslam this year. Will pick up Nugget Nectar for when my stock of Sucks runs out.

your whining makes little economic sense.  very few people would pay $20+/pack for this if it was available all year.  the reason people will pay that much is because of it's rareness.  although the price is high, the amount of hops required to make it dictate a price somewhere in that neighborhood.  the brewery leverages economies of scale by making a huge batch, once, selling it all because of pent up demand, then moving back to its consistent sellers.

speaking of aging: i had a 2012 founders imperial stout that i pulled out of the cellar after a year of aging.  gawddam that was amazing.  i hope i haven't missed this year's batch because i need to grab a few packs for cellaring.  after 12 months this stuff is liquid gold.

At 30 cents an ounce it's pricey compared to Sucks and Nugget Nectar, but cheap compared to the 90 cents an ounce that BCBS Coffee and Cherry Rye went four. And you get six bottles of Hopslam compared to only one bottle of those other beers. To me, that's six nights of beer compared to one night, for more or less the same price.

Plus, if I had to choose only one, I'd drink a Hopslam over a BCBS Cherry Rye or Coffee.

I'll buy MORE of the Sucks, but I'm in for one sixer or Hopslam.

I still have three Founders Imperial Stouts from last year. Good thing, since I haven't seen this years version at any of my usual beer stops.

At $22 a sixer there's no chance I gamble on Hopslam this year. Will pick up Nugget Nectar for when my stock of Sucks runs out.

Maybe we should coordinate a board bottle share, eh??

To be honest, I think I've been spoiled with amazing beers this year, but Hopslam is still pretty tasty. A little too much heat, but still quite delicious. $14 a sixer in Pittsburgh as well. DC prices are ludicrous.

When I called Whole Foods in Foggy Bottom yesterday, they quoted me a price of $25.99/sixer. Plus 10% DC tax.

Which is strange, because just across the bridge in Clarendon, the Whole Foods there had it for $19.99.

DC prices are ludicrous.

4-6 dollars for a single beer?  what's wrong with that?  i pay that so i don't have to buy it in a bar and deal with humans.  plus i like to drink beer in my underwear.

Be careful if he offers you a cold one.
(It won't be very cold.)
