oh man, i participated in the zoo that was pizzeria paridisio 1/2 drafts last night.  what a good time!

bruery takeover.  i drank the following:

cuir - solera beer! holy hell was this amazing.  15%, super boozy, lots of oak, fig, and vanilla.
hottenroth berliner weisse - 3.1%, tart as can be, the quintessential BW.
saison de lente - not bad saison, but a bit dry for my liking.
white oak - wheat wine! fantastic beer for a very difficult style.
rugbrod - tasted this.  pretty good rye, not my thing though.
hummulus lager - only had a taste, but absolutely incredible beer.
lokal red - same as above.  tastes a lot like my homebrew red, which is nice to know.

funny that you say too dry since saisons supposed to be bone-dry...  so must have been something crazy.  i've only ever had saison de lente once from a bottle, would have loved to try it on draft.  i love pretty much everything the bruery puts out.

i appreciate when commercial saisons (mostly north american) are a little less dry than classic or homebrewed versions.  i find a hint of sweetness works sometimes and can be a nice change.

speaking of which, i have 2 gallons of brett'ed saison which should be ready to bottle in the next few weeks... that stuff should be drier than the sahara.

suggestion: get there early.  my brew-buddy was at the CK event last night and just wrote to me:

So last night I head down to Churchkey, arriving 45 minutes after they open. Stand in line for 20-30 minutes. Get in and they are COMPLETELY sold out of Zombie Dust and for that matter all 6 or so of the Three Floyds beers they advertised. That is freaking insanity!! I knew I should have been there when they opened the door...sigh!

Wow, so Shmaltz Brewing (He'Brew/Coney Island) is opening up their own brewery and tasting room in Upstate New York, and it's a stone's throw from my parent's house! Scheduled to open in July.

god im going to get so flamed and jumped and pounded for this one, but is there a winery/wine scene that so long ruled the world, that now fucking hates the fact that beer is taking over.  its so serious now.  hosting concert series, dinners at restaurants tucked away into awesomeness, moving in on the scene . . . the wine scene.  now beer, once the poor mans drink, the thing that common folk partook in while the elite drank wine (damn you), is  the new new, whatever "new" is anymore.  i think so.  i think people are moving away from wine and trying beer.  like trying gay in college, but sticking with it.  i like competition, i like anger towards the other to make one better.  i like not knowing what im talking about sometimes.

yup it was crazy - I went - left work early and got there at 3.30 - my buddy was a few minutes before me so we were 10th in line and chatting to some very nice north carolinians while we waited for 4pm. byt the time 4 rolled around there were at least 150 people in line

we got great bar seats and mainly did 4oz pours which really seemed like a great value as my tab was only $30

tried fiscal cliff, zombie dust, dreadnaught, artic panzer, redeemer, i cannot tell a rye, anti hero, toxic sludge, sexual chocolate and cask event horizon - yum

last night's event at the 930 was a ton of fun musically, but a bit of a disappointment in the beer sense.

escort kicked ass.  it's nu-disco, they have great energy, the singer is hawt and can move... it works for me.  crowd could have been better... the industry types trickled out throughout the show so by the end the floor was less than half full.

on the beer side of things, this event was all about the industry trying to hype an emerging format: the can.  it wasn't about tasting amazing beers.  for the most part breweries don't put their best stuff in cans, they can their best-selling stuff.  dale's is an exception to this since they can everything, including their Ten Fidy which sadly was not on offer last night.  they only had their pale ale.  i had the coconut porter which was nice, and daisy cutter was a delightfully bitter american pale ale, but after those two i couldn't find anything else i was really interested in.  they had raging bitch in a can, so you could change it up from the 930's regular offering of raging bitch in a bottle.  for a while the entire upstairs was VIP only. the missus had to sneak up there to get a cupcake before the show.  luckily they took down the velvet rope after the crowd started to thin.  if they hadn't i wouldn't have tasted the daisy cutter - they were offering different beer at each bar.  the event organizers should provide a map if you're going to do that crap so folks who are there for the beer know where to find it.

it was a fun night listening to a great band and the enhanced beer selection was a nice plus - but not one that would have got me to attend had that been the only attraction.

personally i don't see the resentment, but i don't feel i have a finger on this.  i would think that wine aficionados wouldn't care if beer is emerging... more wine for them, less plebes crashing their refined events.
