The Maryland Other Half Depot received a large Equilibrium can drop yesterday...

Maybe my favorite hops/haze brewery.

Picked up some of the Equilibrium MC2.  It's excellent.

Question-How come the offerings these days are mostly 16 ounce cans?  I much prefer twelve ouncers.

Maybe the Alchemist  started the trend with Heady Topper, and everyone else just fell in line? Interesting question.

If drinking alone, I'd rather have the 12 over the 16, but I find splitting a 16 with my wife is the perfect beer amount.

Edit: They had this exact discussion here:

https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/16-oz-vs-12-oz-cans.615824/

Surly did it long before the Alchemist. Which is not to say that people copied Surly and not the Alchemist.

my biggest gripe with the 16 oz format is...it's a pain to get into a pint glass
you either fill it to the top and it over flows, or you have 2-3oz in a can that you have to put in the fridge/counter while it gets stale/flat/warm

Also is that marketing thing where it seems like you are getting the same amount and it's apples to apples a 6pack
so buying 4 at $16 sounds somewhat ok if a 6 packs were in the $14 range

4 x 16 = 64
6 x 12 = 72
So they are charging more for almost on beer less (2/3rds of one can to be exact)

I'm sure there is a space ratio conversion metric for this

I mean, fill the glass, 1st sip from the can.

even for me...that's a big gulp
and I prefer my big gulps from a glass, so I don't spill it all over me

I think the trend was actually started by Old Milwaukee or possibly Busch.

That's what I love about HF cans, all 12 oz except their helles/pils/lighter options.

Schlitz... The first beer I ever tasted probably around four year's old.

My grandpa used to keep a keg in his basement and he'd let me sip the foam!

This timeline makes it look like Schlitz was first, in 1955.

Budweiser was my first beer, age 6 or so. My dad had a friend visiting and he let me try it. One sip, I spit it out, and didn't taste beer again for another 10 years.
