According to their FAQ, sounds like you can get the DC beer in Brooklyn, but nothing about the Brooklyn beers in DC. I'll be the dork who asks the bartender if we go on Friday.

Do all locations brew the same beer?
Nope! While we’ll offer some of the same beers in all locations, each location has its own specialties. We do offer beer from all locations at our Brooklyn taprooms, but the best way to sample beer from different locations is by purchasing beer for shipping.

Are you referring to cans?? Once again, assuming beer being brewed 50 feet away in giant tanks are being canned for shipment from DC and then actual drafts area coming from that tank vs. a keg being shipped from where ever.

Yes, I am the dork that just called OHDC and asked. The kind woman who answered the phone said that both the kegs and the cans at the DC location are from a mix of the DC location and the New York locations. So there's the answer, unless she was lying or was mistaken.

Well shit! Seems like a dumb move when these guys have a tap list 20 beers long... Why do they need more kegs shipped to them from NYC?

I'll call back later and ask them that one.

Demand? I guess there's enough demand that they need to import extra beer from lands beyond. Have to assume they're not over-ordering then dumping stock.

I harshed on OHDC beers on BA when they first opened.

But I agree that the brewery is just a great place to hang out and have drinks.

And, maybe their beers are getting better - I really enjoyed the 4 pack of Dad Drip I picked up at Magruders a week or so ago

because marketing.  do you want to go to a tasting room with 10 taps or with 20?  most people will say 20.

Aslin expands to Pittsburgh

Coming Summer 2022: Aslin’s Pittsburgh taproom & brewhouse will be located in the Strip District’s Terminal building
A 10-barrel brewhouse, lagering tanks, open fermenters & fouders will support new brewing processes, techniques & ingredient choices. The space will also include a 7,000 sqft taproom, second floor mezzanine, outdoor patio and cafe.

if they weren't getting kegs shipped to the them - i.e. they were dependent on their in-house production - they'd have 10 taps, not 20.

I think this is the case, just observing Downtown Crown's OH can distribution. They tend to get about three new cans a week from DC, and a lot more than that from NY. If they're really only doing three cans a week in DC, they may only be doing three new beers a week and thus need help from NY. Who knows.

Once again, the production capacity at the DC location is 30,000 barrels a year which equates to approximately 7.5 million 16oz pours or cans... Maybe they just can't make beer fast enough...

other than flagships, i doubt all breweries are making the same thing.  so DC is sending its one-offs to NY, and NY is sending us what isn't made here.  so it's not about capacity, it's about availability.  certain brews might require specialized equipment that only one location has.  more likely, they don't think they can sell two breweries' outputs worth of a given brew (other than said flagships).

Can confirm. That "beard yeast" beer a few years back only contained the "beard yeast" from one person.

This isn't a rip on OH, but can confirm there is nothing special being poured there... 90% are hazy ipas that taste all very similar and have a different hop added.

Some epic beer porn from an old beer pal that attended 3F open beer days and other European adventures.
