I couldn't decide between the pancake molds or the cookie cutters, so I ordered both.

I picked up my order today, and the pancake molds are WAY better than the cookie molds.  If you're not willing to go all out on the decorations for the cookies, then you won't likely enjoy them.  The pancake molds on the other hand are AWESOME and a lot bigger than I thought.

NKOTB and Smackie, I've got a serious question for both of you. Please answer this honestly. Do either of you; or, in your case Smackie, did you; plan to make these pancakes and cookies yourself? Especially the cookies. What I mean is 'you', not the ettes in your household. The pancakes are more believeable because, for some odd reason, men (at least straight ones), tend to not mind making breakfast foods but, unless they have to, will avoid any real cooking, especially baking. Unless they are making pot brownies, of course. Baking cookies is just not something I can easily believe that either of you would do more than maybe once just to try out your new toys.

Now if I'm wrong, hey, more power and respect to you!  ;)

Jag, sexist much?

I'm actually a much better baker than I am a cook, and Smackette will be the first to admit that I'm a better baker than she is.  I've attemted to improve my cooking skills, but I just don't have the passion that I see from other good cooks - like Venerable for example, who's a damn good cook because he takes it as a challenge.

I make breakfast nearly 100% of the time and make about 30% of our dinners, mostly because of smackette's brutal schedule as a resident.  That being said, the impetus for Smackette encouraging the SW pancake molds is for me to make pancakes for dinner, which thus far I have been reluctant to do.  We actually did not end up taking home the cookie cutters because the cookies by themsleves (without decorations) are boring and decorating cookies is not my thing. I blame Williams and Sonoma for that because the cookies in their store looked awesome and I could never recreate them.

That being said, I bake a lot of desserts, most recently a strawberry shortcake from scratch that looks something like this (though my cake is much more flaky....):

Wow, Smackie. You amaze me! Good for you! I did know that Venerable did some cooking; at least, bakes a lot of apple pies.

Honestly though, most men that I've known just won't cook or bake unless they are living alone and have to. The worst offenders tend to be the older ones, like closer to my age... and even older. Think it was the way they were brought up to believe that it's a woman's place to cook and clean for the man. The generations younger are so much better about that sort of stuff. Think the younger women stood up for themselves and demanded more sharing of the loads.

Believe me, I could tell you lots of stories regarding lots of different men that I've known or known of whom it would kill to even think of helping out with any sort of cooking. In fact, I broke up with one guy whom I was living with, in part, because of that sort of behavior. The closest he ever got to cooking was fixing himself a bowl of cereal!

Rhett cooks too, I think. Seems he's mentioned it a few times.

I love men who cook.

Still waiting for NKOTB to weigh in.  :D

I lend my hand as much as possible in the kitchen.  There are two main roadblocks though:

1) My wife is still generally home with the kid during the day, so she's ready to hand him off to me when I get home at night.  I certainly don't mind (it's nice to come home and see his smiling face), but it then ties me up a bit too much from making dinner, since babies and boiling water don't mix.

2) My wife is an absolute control freak in the kitchen by her own admission.  Even when it is my night to cook, she tends to make about 75% of the meal because I don't do it right.  Not that the food isn't good..it's just she has her ways.

I do have a wheelhouse of meals that I handle solo, and that's always expanding.  But I'd be lying if I said my wife didn't handle a good 85% of the cooking.

Still waiting for NKOTB to weigh in.  :D

That's an important part.  If my wife cooks, I handle the dishes.  When I cook, I handle the dishes.  And I'm the clean freak of the two of us.  We keep things pretty equal.

I cook 50% of the meals, do my own laundry and ironing, mow the lawn, rake the leaves, trim the bushes and trees, and serve as my soon to be three year old's play buddy. But my wife still does alot more work than me.

Cooking is one of the easiest household chores. Try staining a deck. Now there's a real chore. And my wife is finishing doing that all on her own.

thats why two guys together are so great.  we both cook, take turns cooking and cleaning up . . . and sometimes even like to have wild animal sex in the kitchen.  yummy.
