I don't know if anyone's still looking, but Melody on Connecticut had 6-7 copies of the Franz Ferdinand album.  No Sufjan Stevens, though.  Oh well.

Wow, I saw a bunch of copies of the new Sufjan Stevens album (Seven Swans) last week at Melody, I'm suprised it sold out so quickly.
 
 As someone who thought Greetings from Michigan was, while interesting, a little too post-rocky and indulgent, is Seven Swans more intimate and folky, as I've heard? How would people compare the 2?
 
 Has anyone spotted the new Mirah and Simon Joyner records that came out today around town?

 Well, I went to RR yesterday looking for Ferdinand.  Got there mid-in store performance by Gist -- problem was I couldn't shop while they were playing, as I was looking for "F" franz ferdinand, "G" get up kids, and "m" mekons, two of which were up front behind the band.
 
 Great space, really cool listening rooms with chairs, mags, lava lamps -- even a turntable for vinyl listening.  And staff (one of whom played in Gist) was super nice, friendly, helpful.  They had punch and cookies after the performance.
 
 I asked about FF and they were out, but offered to reserve me a copy.  Then I got the whole story about how the distributor will let them have only so many copies, FF is sold out all over town, etc.  Really nice and seemingly happy to be working in a record store...
 
 The one concern I have is that their stock isn't sufficient.  They don't seem to have many CD racks at all  - the space is cool, but almost like a living room rather than a record store. I'm sure they'll order anything you want, but...  Granted, I didn't peruse much, as I was looking for three discs in particular and had already waited around about 20 minutes for the in-store to end.
 
 I will keep shopping there and see how it goes...

the funny thing is that BigYawn bought the promo copy of FF at Revolution, and the owner really didn't know who they were. Pretty good deal too. But I agree, they do not have enough racks of CDs.

Actually, the guy at Revolution Records told me some interesting info.  The distributor will not give any stores more than a few each with their deliveries, as every store has asked for more and the distributor wants every store to get some copies.  I'm sure that's a short term issue, until the overall regional order can be upped.  Interesting, though, don't ya think?

A DC record store has a chance of making some money and the stupid record companies are holding them back.    :roll:
 
 You know, with the lack of Indie record stores now in the area, you are best to be patient and wait for the record to come in instead of going online or out of town. It will only be a short time in your life and it's not that important to have it immediately. Look at it as investing in the future of your one and only local independent record store.

i'm now one of the kwel kidz having gotten my copy yesterday... anyone heard how well this record did sales wise the first week? given the big underground buzz that developed on this band. i'm also under orders to get this on kosmette's ipod lickety split... might have something to do with them being sharply dressed scots

I ordered a bunch of books from Amazon, so in laziness I ordered FF as well.  Should get it end of the week.  Good price, though I shoulda ordered it from Revolution...
