I guess the sticking point I always have is why people that it doesn't affect give a shit.  Aside from thinking that it does sound a bit homophobic, I wouldn't jump immediately to say Rat Bastard hates gays.  But I would say, without a real clarification, his view of "I'm cool with gays as long as they don't have the same rights as me" sounds nonsensical.

I was being facetious that the traditional marriage of a man and a woman will soon be just a memory, because a precedent is being set (not that I personally care Walkonby so put your homophobe card away) so once it's lawful for same sex marriage the next thing that will happen is people will want to marry their pets, or in some cases mules, should they take a shine to them.

I'm not even a conservative you idiot. I don't own a gun, I don't have a concealed weapons permit, I don't belong to the NRA and I don't hunt. I believe if you go into the archives on this message board you will find I am the most outspoken when it comes to being anti 2nd amendment rights. i too grew up with socialized medicine, and it does work.  is it perfect?  hell no.  but less problems than having the uninsured suffer from preventable ailments and having communicable diseases that we vanquished decades ago making resurgences.

We can debate this till the cows come home (to their spouses) and not agree. The current US health system definately needs an overhaul, but a full blown socialized system is not the answer imo. I think the government just needs to provide for catastrophic and life long injuries and diseases and for disease control (vaccinations etc.) The health insurance market needs to be opened across state lines and you will see premiums begin to drop. Especially if they don't have to cover the catastrophic stuff I just mentioned. Maybe that makes too much sense for beaurocrats? Or I'm too simplistic in my thinking. If you want to wait 5+ months to see a specialist, or 12+ months for that hip replacement/acl tear then knock yourself out. Having just had some pretty major shoulder surgery 2 weeks after it was decided it was required, I don't thank you.

I am going to post this at the extreme risk of being judged by my response.  The thing I don't like about this whole issue is that if one's beliefs are that gay marriage ought now be allowed, they are automatically assumed by many people to be anti-gay, gay haters, or whatever degree of that ideology is being thrust upon them.  (This is true of a lot of other issues as well BTW.)  I personally am opposed to gay marriage.  It, however, has nothing to do with being anti anything other than I am against gay marriage.  In whatever choices and decisions I make in life, the sexual orientation, preference, life style choice of others is of no concern.  Maybe I am in a small minority here, but it does suck that merely because of my believe on a particular issue I am easily labeled and judged by others.
