new Brit indie night to start this Sun, Jan.18th
« on: January 13, 2004, 10:43:00 am »
Hey there,

Please forgive me for the shameless plug, but I thought some of you would be interested in knowing about a new monthly Brit indie night starting on Sunday, Jan. 18th at the Blue Room on 18th Street (which is in Adams Morgan, for those of you that don't go out very much).  No, this is not Mousetrap Part Deux, and the Blue Room is a lounge/bar/hang out spot, not a dance club. The night is called Atmosphere, and the evening will feature loads of excellent post-punk, dream pop/shoegaze and other U.K. indie music the whole night.  I'm especially excited about this event since I'll be doing 2 guest DJ sets (hence the shameless plug).

Some of you may know that the Blue Room had been host to a certain weekly "minimalist techno/electro" event (originally called Filler, then later changed to Matter) every Sunday for the last 2 or 3 years.  Well, it seems that not enough people were showing up to keep the owner happy so now they're trying something new with several different themed Sunday nights every month.  "Atmosphere" will occur every third Sunday of the month, but you can check their website for updates (www.blueroomdc.com)...

Oh yeah, and before I forget, I should say that this Sunday's "Atmosphere" is very much in its "trial run" stage---meaning there's no guarantee it will continue if people don't show up. So if you have an interest in this kind of music, it would be great if you could come out & support the night so we could show the owner of the Blue Room that there is an audience for this kind of music in D.C. The good news is that there is no cover charge, and the Blue Room is quite a cozy lounge club to hear music and chat with friends...

On a slight side note, I did want to say that I will be at Staccato this Friday night supporting Redsock's new BigYawn site by spinning some tunes in between bands.  So definitely come up and say hi if you're so inclined...

And finally, just to give you a taster of what to expect, here's some stuff I played at the Blue Room's Wednesday night "Hi-Fi" event over the past month (I usually spin early on in the evening around 7:30 or 8 btw).  Hope to see and maybe meet some of you this Friday and/or Sunday...

How about, Rhett, why dont you just Fuck off. If you are not interested, dont bother posting.

And friend of Guy Chadwick. The Dj list looks pretty cool. And although I doubt I can make it this time, I will try hard to make it next month.

 2 questions......

The girl with the lonliest eyes is one of the slowest songs ever, and not really one of the bands best, what made you pick that for a DJ set?

And how did you get into Felt? And which allbums do you have?

Somebody woke up on the wrong side of the bed.

Do we need another venue playing Britpop?

Why not give a topic a chance to stay, "on topic". This one had three minutes, before you placed your disparaging remarks.

Oh and Guy, why did you play the Wedding Present and not Cinerama?

Because then he might not get the attention he needs to make his otherwise pathetic life somewhat bearable.

If my remarks aren't relevant to your interpretation of the topic, just ignore them.

My point was, given that we already have other options to hear such music at various venues, why not play genres that go underplayed? Particularly if this is not a dance club venue, why the need to play dance club music?
