Is there a thread for this that already exists? If not, can this be it?? If there is, can you delete this thread?

Anyway, Kurt Vile last night...

I felt bad for him and the band, literally there were about 50 people there max and I bet they actually sold about 20 tickets. I think the others were freebies... Good show nonetheless.

That is an absolute shame.  Have never seen him and would have loved to go last night but I'm still on detox from SXSW.

This is a great thread idea, though.

It is a shame... Having a top 10 album in 2011 to literally not even being able to get 100 people in a room.

That's good to hear... I'm assuming this show would've sold out at the Black Cat or R+R Hotel as well. B-more'd.

Same night as the Doug Aitken "Song 1" opening at the Hirshhorn, which was free.

Top 10 on what chart?

So that's at least three people who are fans. Three music critics. You know, people who likely don't have many friends and surely don't have a partner to bring to the show.

I think it was a last minute booking and Rams Head Live was the only available venue.

I think he and his band benefitted from RHL's sound system though there was a little bit of problem with the sax during Freak Train.

Overall, I thought the show was fantastic and they played for a good 90 minutes. No complaints there.

No complaints about the show Vas, just disappointing in the turn out.

Actually, one complaint... When he played acoustic with the full band, he was completely blown over in sound and you couldn't hear him too well on acoustic IMO.

James, I still get a good chuckle out of your top 20 2011 list. It fits a middle aged white dude to a T!!

Glad I can make you chuckle!

When I sent my top 20 list to my friends, most of whom are white middle aged dudes and babes, most didn't email me back. But among the few who did, I'd hear comments like, "Wow, I've actually heard of a few of those!"

I'd wager that most middle aged people, particularly with kids, probably didn't even listen to ten new albums in 2011, much less listen to enough albums both good and bad to compile a top 20 list.

And for the record, Kurt Vile is pretty middle of the road musically. I bet he'd be right up the alley of plenty 40something white dudes, if they gave him a listen.
