Yada and I enjoyed the best show in DC Tuesday night.
I'm not even sure Liam would agree with that statement if asked

Well he does seem like a humble fellow. At least based on his stage demeamor.

Amazing night at Bliss!

Can't decide if this is very Julian's America or the antithesis. Ones body being paraded around like royalty and placed in the VIP section even after death seems on point, but hip hop and gun violence does not.

spiritualized was amazing.  setlist covered a lot of ground.  veered into shoegaze territory on a few occasions... heavy on texture.  no opener, started on time, went about 2:15.  first show in over 2 years.  did not have sex with jason.

a few pix.  they had a ton of signs stating that video and photography were strictly prohibited, but those rules were not strictly enforced.  at all.  there was an mic and mic stand right in front of jason that blocked the view, which was photographically frustrating.

yup!  it was my first time at the neptune.  i really liked the place, nice vibe and staff were friendly.  i liked being able to walk around, i could get pretty close to the stage if i wanted or i could wander upstairs and grab a seat on the balcony.  draft beer was good (Lush!) but spendy at $10.

As I age, I’m getting very convinced the “small venue with seats upstairs and standing room downstairs and both are total GA” is the optimal venue.

Solid Bright Eyes show last night. The 8-piece string and brass section really allowed their more elaborate material to reach its potential. Set was a great mix of the new album, classics and deep cuts. Was thrilled they closed the show out with 2 Digital Ash tracks, as it's my favorite album in their discog.

Great Spoon show last night. I got the one with Jonathan Fisk on the setlist, so that was cool. Packed as fuck, but I managed to carve out a little space for myself and could actually see ok. So all was good.

That was the most I've ever paid for a ticket to a show. Was it the best show ever? No, but I'm glad I went.

Maybe I've just been spoiled by the proportion of great shows I've seen in the last year (literally almost all of them have been good, many have been great), but I found Big Thief a little "meh." I probably would have liked them more 10-15 years ago. And the Anthem is still too big of a venue for my tastes. I was actually up front but the painful buzzing in my ear, even with earplugs, made me retreat to the back, where it was fine.

I also managed to check out Churchkey beforehand. I had a full pour of a Fiden's hazy (awesome), and chased it will a taster of Suarez Kolsch (very good.) New York State in the house, as was Greg Engert.

The worst part was putting in eight hours of work (starting at 7:30), taking my dog to the vet for two hours, and going to a show (that only I had interest in), and getting attacked by my wife for "having fun" while she worked all night (with a break to go to the gym.)

And now she just walked in the door and yelled "Lay the fuck down, and get out of my way, you horrible fucking animal." To the dog, not me.

It's going to be a long day. :(
