went to the gibbard double-bill tonight. he was clearly amped to be performing in his hometown. throughout the show ben regaled us with various anecdotes about writing the album in an attic apartment on mercer street, growing up in bremerton, what sub pop offices were like in 2003, etc.
the DCFC set was fun. a number of little tweaks to the music kept things interesting for me. a tad jarring to see ben sing the piano-heavy songs while not playing the piano...
the crowd stayed seated for the DCFC set, but jumped up and stayed up for the postal service. the line "...from the cascades to puget sound" from this place is a prison got a big homer whoop. local treat: jen wood was trotted out for "nothing better" - she originally sang it on the album (jenny only did backing vox).
caught the last two songs of the openers, the beths. they were... fine. the new arena, Climate Pledge, sounded damn good for a hockey/basketball shed, thanks to good design and copious amount of acoustic treatment on the ceiling.
