Fontaines DC at the Club on Saturday late show.
1st off let me say I never have seen that area in DC more crowded and more of a traffic clusterfuck than I did last night.  It was Howard University's 100th Homecoming Celebration and the area was just flooded with people and cops.  Streets were closed off and traffic was at a standstill.  It took me about an hour to go 4 blocks, figure out what the issue was, and then very fortunately find neighborhood parking off of S street.

Anyway we got to inside the venue in time to hear the last few songs from the opener.  Fontaines DC came on at around 11:45 and put on a great show.  I saw them originally when they opened for Idles at Metro Gallery in Baltimore (what a great double header and show that was).  Anyway Fontaines put on a high energy full set show spanning their 4 albums.  Place was packed, but we found a nice place against the wall by left side bar.

I had read one of the guitarists got sick during the Friday show and couldn't continue.  they ended up only playing 13 songs versus the full set of 18 songs we got on Saturday.  Felt very fortunate we didn't get the Friday show.

We got out of the venue around 1:20 or so and the streets were still packed and traffic was still nuts.  Luckily we took another route home and avoided that mess.

Am at Nick Lowe w Los Straitjackets …fantastic

The new album is a killer

Personally feel this is the finest songwriter to grace this stage. Lowe is a master.

I saw him once open for Wilco at MPP but that was acoustic solo so this is really a treat cause I favor the more rocking tunes.

saw him and Los Straightjackets open for Elvis last year.  Thought they were much better than Elvis at that show anyway.

I once saw him play solo for free at a Borders in the burbs. Some woman complained that he didn't play Cruel to Be Kind. But it mattered not, he was lovely.

Also saw him at Wolftrap Barns and braved the Birchmere food to see him at least once, maybe twice. With bands for those shows.

Agree he is a master songwriter. Not that I know anything about songwriting.

I saw him once with Television as the opener at Cannes, then once more at CBGB. I was the only one there and they dedicated the whole night to me. He signed my asshole and i haven’t wiped ever since.

Closed with Alison solo acoustic

I wanted him to sign the new album but only waited about 20 minutes and then decided I wanted to go home.

Great show!

I've found Nick tough to get lately. Went to the Birchmere last year and struck out. Anything signed at the merch area?

Mag Fields Saturday 10/19

The ethereal strains of the cello crushed me, especially the first half of the set. Tearjerkingly beautiful!  The two female vocalists sounded great and who doesn't love a well tuned banjo?  Merritt was in good form, which isn't always the case.  Even told some jokes.  He used some taped percussion and synth beats and they blended seamlessly with the live instruments.

Glad we got their early because it WAS wild in the streets with the Howard Hundreth happening.

Yes, I was very pleased with their performance in June at Solid Sound!  Fun back up band.  Dig Lowe's rockabilly side.

Just saw Graham Nash in a 400ish person theatre and he was legitimately phenomenal at 82 years old. On the very small chance anyone was on the fence about the Wolf Trap show tomorrow, go grab a ticket.
