i was going to ask if you made it out.  I thought I saw you by the bar, to the right side of the room (facing the stage) but then I remembered I haven't seen you in person in like 10 years, so I got seconds thoughts of asking a stranger "are you kosmo?".

I like most of Miri's bands, and the solo stuff is pleasant, but I don't actively listen that much.  Still, fun live...her drummer was a blast to watch.  Plus, I loved the Green Day cover...definitely took me most of the song to really recognize it.

Second time seeing Dim Wizard, and I liked it more than the first.  Again, I don't know how much I'd ever listen to their albums, but as an opener they're a lot of fun.

Perennial is just a force of nature, man.  Perfect set too...10 songs in like 50 minutes.  Seems short to type it out like that, but I honestly don't know how they'd even have the energy for another song.  Kosmo, I recall you saying something about the drummer being the secret weapon, and I'd only disagree to say it's not a secret.  They beat the shit out of their kit.

Now I realize a lot of smaller shows in spaces like the Red Room will only run vocals and likely keyboards through the PA and then the guitar players rely on their own amps. With that said it seems like that setup works better for some bands/genres then others.

dunno, but that setup works better for some audience members than others... i guess the benefit would be the possibility of "choose your own mix": not enough guitar?  move closer to the stage!  need less vocal?  get away from (or to the side of) the PA!

As I recall after Perennial set on the main stage, my comment to someone was that their drummer was likely playing with other bands as he was doing a little ska here, if memory serves me jazz inspired as well.  Friday he was just a force of nature…

For Miri’s set since it was just a trio the vocals were fine, but even backed away from the stage the vocal fix wasn’t quite right for Dim Wizard but the band and the mosh pit were having a blast.

I've got the receipts

Perennial were up first and if you are going to go on stage might as well go all out... Plenty of antics, lots of banter and some heavy heavy riffs ... the drummer was definitely their secret weapon

I was clarifying why I considered Perennial’s drummer their secret weapon  :P

and I was just clarifying you were 100% right.  That's stuck in my  head since that show...obviously you couldn't have the whole without all of the parts, but man, even they seemed shocked by their playing.

ABC / Howard Jones

Was looking forward to getting a chance to see ABC live again and Martin Fry and his crack band didn't disappoint.  A set with all the hits had Martin sounding great on vocals and the band sticking closely to the recorded versions including the drummer deftly handling the drum parts from the "Look Of Love" album.  Martin passed along that the song "Vanity Kills" was their homage to the  Prince/The Time/Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis.  I would definitely enjoying seeing ABC again and give their set an A-

Wasn't sure about how Howard Jones set would play out as his vocals came of little thin at first and it seemed like his guitar and second keyboardist was doing the heavy lifting on the synth lines. But as the show progressed his vocals got stronger and he was definitely doing those famous keyboard runs.  Since he now tours with the bass player from Kajagoogoo he does a version of "Too Shy" but oddly that famous bass line wasn't exactly re-created. Overall I give props for Howard touring with a full band and willing to do different often rocked up takes on his classics and clearly he had the bigger sing along hits then ABC. Would not feel compelled to see him again and would give his set a B.

Kim Deal show was great.  Played the new solo album, a  few of her solo songs from that 7-inch series she released like 10 years back and 5 (I think) Breeders songs.  She's the coolest to ever do it.

Capital Turnaround sucks, man.  I hate the vibe but it was worth ponying up for the good seats...had a great spot right in front of Kim.

Good seeing bearman after like 15 years or something.

Went to see Confidence Man last night and will maintain they are Fluffy in all the right ways and tops at doing fun catchy high energy electro pop. Having seen some of their live shows from festivals, I was slightly disappointed they performed with just the singers and the keyboard player serving as a DJ instead of using their live drummer.  I learned yesterday that drummer Clarence McGuffie is considered a sometimes member or the group.

Janet Planet and Sugar Bones gave it their all with the signature dance routines they are known for in concert while Reggie Goodchild rocked the beats and the audience was having a blast.  At one point Janet dons an impressive multicolor LED cone bra, while Sugar gets a similar shoulder pad device.  I'm sure a segment of the audience had no issue with Sugar spending most of the show with his shirt off...

Would I feel the need to see them again live, that of course would depend on the situation and lineup they are touring with then, as they are clearly highly choreographed start to finish complete with costume changes.  To me you can see why do so well at festivals with their high energy and catchy tunes.

I would give the show a B-

I'd imagine they'll play with them through out this set. Was hoping to see hutches top hat here
