Nothing should be more frightening to Orioles fans than hearing "The Orioles are going over medicals of prospects involved in trade."

And not because it means Machado is being traded (that's a good thing), but because this is usually where things break down in Oriole land...

For the record, I'll take the Dodgers on this trade.

So who's involved?  Name names.

Manny in LA seems a good fit.  Would be funny if he doesn't actually get traded there.

5 Prospects from the Dodgers, after the O's turned down Logan Forsythe and some cash (the Dodgers wanted to stay under the luxury tax threshold).

Yusniel Diaz
Dustin May
Errol Robinson
+ 2 more are the names being floated.

I can't imagine the Dodgers would part with May and Diaz for a short term loan unless they can sign a long term deal with Machado in advance.

Like clockwork.....

Possible snag in Machado deal to Dodgers. Sources indicate that one or more of prospects coming to #Orioles have some issues in their physicals.  Surprise surprise.  May open door for other clubs. Stay tuned.

They sorted it out.

Machado to the Dodgers.

Orioles getting top OF Prospect Yusniel Diaz, RHP's Dean Kremer, Rylan Bannon and Zach Pop, along with infielder Breyvic Valera.

'Reports surfaced earlier today, including a tweet from MLB Network Radio’s Steve Phillips, that the deal hit a snag due to concerns over the medicals on at least one of the players. However, I’m told that they’ve been “all but addressed” and aren’t considered a hindrance.'

What do you think of the players they got?

Well, let's start with the obvious - the O's got much less because they didn't trade him this past off season and which would have included a draft pick as well.  If the O's wanted a top 1 or 2 prospect deal, that had to happen in November.

Diaz has trouble staying healthy, but he's played well in hitters parks and Camden is a hitters park.  I think he'll be better than average, but probably not a star a la Adam Jones quality.

I don't know anything about the other guys, but most reports are that it's quantity over quality.  Keith Law says Dean Kremer is the most interesting name in the package and profiles as a back-end starter or late-inning reliever.  Rylan Bannon hits well in hitters parks only (good for Camden) and has a chance "to be a bench piece."  Zach Pop is a reliever who's going to be a middle guy "if he makes it."  Breyvic Valera is a potential utility infielder but probably not bringing enough stick to be a regular anywhere.

But, it's better than nothing as there was no way he was resigning with Baltimore.

O's designate Chris Tillman.  I can't remember the exact rules, but given his experience, I don't think he has to accept it and is probably done as an O.

Can't say he didn't have his chances.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, surprised by the Orioles’ finesse in the market:

“I don’t know who is making these deals — Dan Duquette, Brady Anderson, the sons of Peter Angelos, the ghost of Harry Dalton — but the Baltimore Orioles certainly seem to be operating with a clue. With their trade of Zach Britton to the New York Yankees, the Orioles have acquired three top-15 prospects from two of the game’s deepest farm systems in a week’s time. Their bounty for a pair of rentals, Britton and Manny Machado, also includes four other minor leaguers and a player with major league experience, infielder Breyvic Valera.”

Law was fairly positive on the Britton deal as well.  He said it was a better haul than the Mets got for Familia, despite Britton missing most of the season.

Tate is well known, and if he could just get a little break on his fastball, could be very effective.  Pitchers with straight fastballs don't fair well in Camden.

Carroll "should probably just report to Camden Yards" right now.  VERY high on him.

And Rogers "might be a fifth starter but more likely is an up-and-down guy."  Needs to keep the ball in the park, which doesn't get easier in Camden.

Unless Adam Jones takes a serious home town discount to stay in Baltimore this offseason, he just totally screwed the team over.
