Amazing how San Diego got nothing for him though (mid level prospect at best) AND has to pay the majority of his salary ($16m of the $22m he's owed this season and next).  That's something Anaheim would do.

Dude.  Let's f'in talk about this.

He's got one more arbitration eligible year, so there's that.  Probably stands to make $8-10m next season.  If he finishes strong may $12m.

The Angels picked up a 6'9 rookie who's out with shoulder problems and Ricky Nolasco's contract who's signed for one more year at $12m dollars and an option for '18 at $13m. 

The Angels must love Meyer, or the Twins are eating some of Nolasco's salary,  because in a year where they could be offseason spenders, they just traded away a more effective starter who costs less for Ricky f'in Nolasco.

It was definitely my biggest WTF-trade of deadline day. I thought it was a twitter troll at first.

Didn't realize Santiago had another arbitration-eligible season. They can probably get something back for him next trade deadline if they're still terrible and shed Nolasco in the process.

The Twins are kicking in $4M so next years salaries will be the same, though I suspect Santiago will out pitch Nolasco.  I guess the Angles Brass really like Meyer.

Meyer seems to be that perennial "young talent" that GM's and scouts love, he's been consistently on Baseball America's top 100 prospects list since he was drafted by the Nats.... meanwhile, he's now 26 and still hasn't had a modicum of success at the big league level when given the chance so we'll see how he does in his 3rd organization in 3 years....

the Yankees accidentally employed the A's approach.... trade for/buy big names knowing that if they weren't in contention, trade them for prospects, the A's never had a problem doing that... seemingly, for the first time, the Yank's have thrown in the towel, traded all those high priced guys for prospects and did well..... and saved enough money to buy Brice Harper and Manny Machado in a couple years.....

Oh, cool then. Hopefully it serves as a speed bump to the Yankees flying back to legitimacy which is a horrible, horrible prospect.
