I wasn't allowed to go to shows until I was 18 except for the Screaming Trees/Soul Asylum/Spin Doctors show at Hershey Park when I was 14.

So, I am sad I never got to see

Nirvana
Rage Against the Machine
The Smiths

But, I did get to see Bowie twice, so that's good.

Yeah... I got kind of screwed in my teens due to not having a major city within 80 miles... I only saw about 10 shows from age 14 to 18.

Elliott Smith
Pulp
Daft Punk

Elliott Smith was one of the worst shows I ever saw.  It was awful.  Awful crowd, he was a mess, the band were jerks to the crowd.  Horrible.

Was this one of the 9:30 Club shows? I think you would have loved his solo acoustic shows at the Black Cat. You could hear a pin drop. Nobody would say a word. As soon as he was done with a song there'd be thunderous applause, then everyone would stop almost as if they were afraid they'd miss something he'd say or do.

XO tour?

Yes.  That tour.  It doesn't mention that Smith was so messed up he could barely sing.

I missed that one and at the time I was really bummed, but it sounds like the shows were pretty average. Both of the 9:30 Club shows in 2000 for Figure 8 were great.

This is pretty what how I remember it sounding: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uRwZ8PUClRw

(Holy crap, the cover of "Jealous Guy" instantly makes me tear up. Stellar.)

i'm surprised no one has mentioned James Brown.  that's a show i'm still kicking myself for missing... i assumed he'd be back.  he always came back.

Bowie is another wish-i-coulda.

a couple of recent bands stick out to me... i've either had work commitments, travel, show conflicts, or simply i couldn't get tickets. hopefully i'll have another chance over the next few years to cross some of these off the list.

swans
the walkmen
radiohead
daft punk
the war on drugs

only "maybe" on that list is daft punk.  who knows if they'll ever tour again.  you should have a chance to see the others.

Both those bands suck live.  You haven't missed anything.
