My poor mom in Argentina is all paranoid and pessimistic about having gotten the Chinese sinopharm vaccine which she thinks sucks and when if ever she can get the second dose

And my unvaccinated mom is pissed that they kicked her out of the natural foods store for refusing to wear her mask over her nose (she says she can't breathe with it covering her nose.)

My obese 51 year old sister in law (brothers wife), who has weakened lungs from some other illness she has, is refusing to get the vaccine out of fear of the side effects.

My brother, with a BMI under 25, got his first Pfizer shot with no side effects.

ugh, hutch, your mom may be correct in doubting the chinese vaccine:

this is terrible news.  china has been on a "vaccine diplomacy" kick, dangling its (crappy) vaccine as a carrot to curry favor with developing countries.  who knows what sort of backroom deals they brokered in exchange for access to their vaccine... what a bad deal for the recipients.  and so many countries are dependent on a cheap chinese vaccine in order to vaccinate their populations.  this is a global tragedy.
