Family member flew to the west coast 2 weeks ago.  Airport and security were a breeze. Plane was a bit too crowded and folks ended up sitting next to strangers. Not a good time.

I flew once in Aug...I think there were more crew than passengers...so wasn't close to anyone and the airport was very empty

I think the trick is a good mask, lots of hand washings, and avoid places where you are crammed close to others

What is always hard for me is I'm a face toucher, always rubbing my eyes, nose and mouth and this covid thing has been really hard to break that habit. I remind myself constantly when I'm in public not to do that

Some of the airlines are claiming it's safer than going to a grocery store

I can’t believe people are taking the idea of flying - willingly- seriously

Seems premature

At our current rate we are averaging about 1 million new cases per week.

Probably we need to , you know, take this thing seriously and make some progress first?

I mean sucks about Thanksgiving and the vacation plans... sucks about the kids school.., believe me I know

I hope the vaccine changes everything

I'm talking about next Summer, and completely refundable fares. I definitely wouldn't fly this Winter. Heck, I won't be driving or hosting anyone either.

I did a roundtrip flight in mid-September.     Fine experience.  100% masks and considerate people.  I brought wipes and had a whole row each way.
And I know it's all just marketing jargon but when reading Southwest's safety protocols I thought "Damn, I'm safer on this airplane than I am in my own apartment."

A friend is on her third airtravel venture now and hasn't reported an issue.

Crucial for my comfort level:    nonstop flight.   definitely no middle seats sold and preferably not filled past 1/2 (of course that is also non COVID wishes too, but now required)

I don't find it odd. Most of them are under 70. Then if you're over 70, you've still got a 95% chance of survival.

https://reason.com/2020/09/29/the-latest-cdc-estimates-of-covid-19s-infection-fatality-rate-vary-dramatically-with-age/

Assuming that the CDC's nationwide IFR estimate proves to be about right, there are still a couple of important complications. Regional antibody studies by the CDC, using blood drawn for routine tests unrelated to COVID-19, suggest that the IFR varies widely from one part of the country to another—from 0.1 percent in Utah to 1.4 percent in Connecticut as of early May, for example. Recent CDC estimates indicate that the IFR also varies dramatically by age—from 0.003 percent among people 19 or younger to 5.4 percent among people in their 70s.

According to those "best estimates," which were published this month as an update to the CDC's COVID-19 Planning Scenarios, the IFR is 0.02 percent for 20-to-49-year-olds and 0.5 percent for 50-to-69-year-olds. The CDC did not include an IFR estimate for people 80 or older. But judging from crude case fatality rates (deaths divided by confirmed cases), the IFR for people in that age group would be substantially higher than 5.4 percent.

maybe Hawaiian air is the way to go
Hawaiian Airlines will allow customers to trade frequent-flier miles for COVID-19 test kits
