Zelensky says he's "ready" to resign if it brings peace or Ukraine joins NATO

true, but you know that is a satire account

yes, i heard it's a parody of a certain boardee's financial advice... <hides>

Tuberville: Putin and Trump will decide future of Ukraine, not Zelensky

there has been a lot of that going around.  i think it was watters, on fox, who said "ukraine is a vassal state, we own them, and we decide when the war is over, not them".

this comes directly from trump.  as a NYC developer, he believed there were two types of people/companies:
1) subordinate suckers who should be taken advantage of; or
2) powerful types that you buddy up to and make deals with.
the lowly plumbing contractor will be paid a third of what was agreed to after the work is complete, while other rich magnates are wined and dined.  this thinking permeates trump's political thinking too: either a country (or its leader) is below the US, in which case you take everything and give back nothing (ukraine, panama, canada, greenland, gaza); or it's a "real country"/"real leader" with power, like ruzzia or china, that trumps aspires to pal around with.

clearly trump is done with the inconvenience that is ukraine, and his disciples are parroting the message: ukraine shouldn't even have a say in its own future.  what word is worse than disgusting?  reprehensible?

I wonder if Trump is looking for a pretext to invade Canada?

But if we attacked Canada who exactly would help them? Do they have much of a military?

canada's military would not be able to stop an american invasion, not even close (harken back to when ruzzia invaded ukraine, except that the invader is both prepared and actually competent).  i doubt anyone would come to the help of canada - other countries have to be realistic enough to know that they can't beat the US in what would be a land war for the US but a overseas war for potential canadian allies.

The US would immediately become a pariah state like Russia and Iran.

pretty sure trump would be OK with that.  russia and china are powerful, all the countries calling him a pariah are weak LOSERS who should hand over their wealth to the US.  who wants to hang with them anyways?  they only take advantage of the US!

Of course, war has always dovetailed nicely with restrictions on civil liberties etc

there is a conspiracy theory that trump is creating so much chaos as to create civil unrest, he can then declare martial law, suspend the constitution, and we start the reign of Donald The First.

Ok now I’m thinking this play is to get regime change in Ukraine

that play is straight from the kremlin.  trump is learning what putin has known for a while: zelensky won't give in to bullying from the more powerful, regardless of the cost.  only solution is to get rid of zelensky and get a new leader who is more controversial, less popular etc then try sowing civil discord under the new, weaker leader.  the kremlin might try to prop up a pro-kremlin candidate but he/she cannot win - ukrainians will not vote for anyone pro-moscow - but rolling the dice on a new president is preferable to the brick wall that is Z.

ousting Z isn't going to happen.  first, the ukrainian constitution prohibits elections during martial law, so RU would need to leave UA first, which defeats the point of getting rid of Z.  even if they amended the constitution (something that would take many months) to allow for it under current conditions, Kyiv has estimated it would take a minimum of 6 months to get infrastructure to a point where elections could be held.  so a new ukrainian president is at least a year away, likely more - way too far in the future for putin/trump.  anyone chosen through such an election would have legitimacy issues: putin/trump would say they aren't the real president, they had to change the rules to get them elected, not all of ukraine was able to vote (because of ruzzia!) so he doesn't represent the people, etc.  finally, Z is ridiculously popular right now.  even if all of the above happened and elections were held somehow, Z would win.  so they'd go through all that effort just to get right back where they started.

Zelensky says he's "ready" to resign if it brings peace or Ukraine joins NATO

first and foremost Z wants security for the people of ukraine, and second, a return to ukraine's internationally-recognized borders.  if he can get that, or most of that, in exchange for his resignation, i believe he'll happily do it.  it's been his goal for 3 years now, and you have to imagine he's exhausted.  i'm not convinced that, if peace is achieved and normal elections are held, than Z would even run.  i strongly suspect he'd feel he's done his part and is ready to hand off the reigns.

Guys, I could just run Ukraine if he steps down and I’d have us out of this in like three weeks.

You should think about your children’s future and understand TEN TIMES THAT AMOUNT is a small price to pay for your children to grow up under Julian/American rule vs under the eternal threat of Putin.

@angry_staffer
Tariffs could be coming off tomorrow.

Either the most incompetent administration in history, or the most blatant stock market manipulation ever.

Or both. Why not both?

Ok, I have a tiny bit of faith in things when trump doesn't get his way at the SCOUTS
Supreme Court DENIES President Trump‘s emergency bid to cancel nearly $2 billion in USAID spending. The vote is 5-4.
