I thought this was a fantastic book. A strange book in some ways… really three different ones. The first third - the best— about his growing up in Manchester. The second part about the Smiths to his early solo years and then a sort of diary of touring in the 2000s…

Of course it being Moz it’s not divided at all…just one long 450 page chapter

I think he is a great writer but not for everyone…

The cassette – called C86 – was one of three dozen compiled by NME during the 1980s, sold to eager readers in exchange for a £2.95 postal order to cover post and packing. It was money well spent. Several of the bands included on C86 would subsequently gallop forward in their careers – the likes of Primal Scream, the Soup Dragons, the Wedding Present and Half Man Half Biscuit.

I finally finished the Fugazi book about In on the killtaker!

I been reading more than ever… not sure why…realization of mortality? Dissatisfaction with life!? Boredom?


Currently working on the Edmund Morgan biography of Ben Franklin (focuses way too much on his political achievements and hardly at all on person), Joseph Ellis’ “The Cause” (my favorite historian) and Houellebeck’s “Platform”

Lordie the Stephen Morris book Record play pause (about Stephen’s early life and Joy Division) is delicious….I think I prefer it to the Sumner and Hooky….at the very end when he writes about Ian dying it is very touching…then about the start of neworder I could not stop laughing

I ordered the sequel focused on neworder and hope it gets here soon…they really should have published them as one book…

How, do you have time to read, when all you do is listen to vinyl, and go, to concerts?

I don’t go to that many concerts really…..I really pick my spots. Many shows I talk about going to I never make it….I doubt I will break 15-20 shows this year…when I work a show it’s not the same as attending


Reading makes me happy. Yesterday I read while waiting for my kid to be done with speech therapy. Then I read at home at night. But like everything it goes in phases.

I do feel lately that seeing as I ain’t getting younger and time might be limited I really need to pick up the pace reading wise or not going to get to a lot of books I want to read.

yes, but there are 365 days in the year, so plenty of time for reading on those 345 days
