BTW-Review of Widespread Panic from a Deadhead/musician friend who attended the mountain jam in upstate NY last weekend- I've never cared much for them when hearing their material on XM radio jam station. I think Herring is a strong guitarist, but he seems more technical than emotional/expressive. Panic live wasn't great. The sound was just a big mush of wailing guitars and and sax and drums and keys into one big ball of loudness, it was always loud and wailing, little dynamics in songs and between them. I couldn't get the story of any of their original songs. They started playing one song and I started liking it a lot more - it was low spark of high heeled boys cover. That was nice, but not a good sign when only song you like is a cover. Panic is not for me I guess. Other people were tripping out and shuffling in the mud and going "fuckin panic is sick dude!"
