Vienna vs. the back alleys of DC
« on: July 12, 2005, 09:07:00 am »
Regarding Vienna (#3 on Money Magazines Grat American Towns):

"It's a safe town and a good place to have an all-ages club, as opposed to a back alley in DC," said Daniel Brindley, owner of Jammin Java.

BUT WAIT ONE MINUTE! I THOUGHT I READ ON THE 9:30 CHAT BOARD THAT THE DC CLUBS WERE IN SAFE NEIGHBORHOODS!

Haha...I did not go to Vienna's award winning highschool...so that is probably why I didn't read the entire post before I just assumed you were making a spelling error.  Oh well.

But seriously, Vienna is a cool place...if you have a couple kids and a mini van.  Good schools, great recreational sports programs for kids (soccer, lacrosse, football), the W&OD trail runs through it, its close to a big city, and there is decent public transportation.  When I was in highschool I didn't have a car, but I could ride my bike to the Metro if I wanted to go into the District or just jump on the Metro bus that stopped at the bottom of my street to go anywhere else.  I enjoyed growing up there.

As a 26 year old, I don't see it as the most hip and happening place (my parents, btw, love Jammin Java and the fact that they can walk there to see shows)...but if I had a family (and could afford a house there), I wouldn't mind raising my kids in Vienna.
