See, this is something interesting. I don't know if their fans are fickle or not. I know that they are another in a long line of British "buzz" bands, but people who have seen them live (people I respect) say they have the goods.
Also, there's something to the "cool" issue when fans discover a band on their own. Not via the press. Or a radio station. Or even a blog. But through word of mouth only. Same thing as what I call the "Phish Phactor". I'm convinced that half those Phish Phans just loved that their band didn't get airplay, didn't sell a gazillion records, and that they "discovered" the band without subscribing to anything mainstream (especially before the Internet was a factor). The "underground" factor played a part.
Artic Monkeys now has a lot of press, but they really didn't before their first single landed at #1 in the U.K.
