thanks Sonick. When I skimmed through I thought I had actually posted Mankies comments. Perhaps we are both just tragically hip?

ahhh. . .the hipster backlash against 70s rock and anything from the 80s that wasn't "indie."

and hearing critism of american rock bands from 2 brits is quite amusing (not to mention quite grating), although def leppard was british.  all i have to say is that "pyromania" is one of theeeee best albums of the 80s.

I implied correlation not causation.

The study can be found in the Journal of American Music, Vol.VII.4, February 1997; 34-42.

Hell, you could add almost any Canadian band to the list, starting with Loverboy.  But leave The Guess Who off the list.  They were a good pop band. [/b]
now now!!! I dont think Loverboy is fair!  Most Canadians dont even know they are Canadian.  What about Rush and (you mentioned The Guess Who), dont forget Neil Young, Tragically Hip, Men Without Hats, Anvil (haha), Platinum Blonde, BTO, and Paul Anka. Gordon Lightfoot, and Rufus Wainwright,

ok, i will stop.....and i think Our Lady Peace is damn good as well. [/b]

look, he admitted to liking our lady peace. There is no surer sign of a sense of humour.

No one has mentioned Ryan Adams, Barenaked Ladies or Alannis Nicorette.

Don't take it to heart V. Bede.  Most of my friends over here in England like American bands as much, if not more, than the British bands.  I feel like such an outcast!

This thread is incredible...

50 worst in Music History?...Wilco and Ryan Adams?

When did becoming media darlings make somebody an awful musician? You have to admit that Ryan Adams and Tweedy and company are incredibly talented. I am sure most people on this board raved about Wilco and Whiskeytown five years ago.
