Tangent: as people continue to talk about “how full hospitals are”, I truly wonder if 99% of them have any concept of what percentage of hospital beds are filled on any given day, pre-COVID. It’s much higher than people are thinking.

Hospitals make money by having beds full. It’s what hospital administrators retain or lose their jobs based on. I’m not acting like COVID has not increased the number of beds full or shifted the percentage of filled beds by severity, but I get the impression that people think 25% of beds were full precovid and now we are at 95% and the real situation is it went from 80% to 90%.

yeah, it's kind of a third rail topic
but my (quite possibly, ill informed) understanding is that beds filled is always in the 80% or up, so just little blips can cause a full house
can't keep having that kind of stuff, but that's why a for-profit health care system kinda sucks

I was hoping the dems would have taken this moment to pass a real change in health care
when I talk about issues that hit my wallet...my 'employer based' plan a significant portion of my take home pay to just cover the premiums

but apparently that off the table, we can have a pandemic AND fix our fucked health care system

Yes. This is actually quite a well-informed take. If hospitals were sitting 85% empty every day, they wouldn’t have been built the size they are. Managing capacity along the continuum that most hospitals own (the actual hospital, a SNF, an ortho/rehab facility, a skilled home health arm, a hospice agency, etc) is major lever in vertically integrated health care systems which is what you see dominating the markets. They’re not running at 50% capacity, trust me.

What scares me is all the Q-nut-jobs all are going to be running for school board and the ones who know what they are doing and have been doing it for years are just going to say 'hell no, take this job that sucks anyway' next thing you know they are going to do virginity checks in the Dr's office and praying in class in lieu of the pledge

Cut back on your Handmaid's Tale intake....
People like this will be running the school boards if we let them run unopposed

Tbh… some good things in there

Was going to say the same thing.

hitler has a few objectively good ideas too.

IMP tries to clear up their mask policy (after 10/16, you need a jab)

MASKS ARE REQUIRED
Per the Mayor’s mandate, masks are required to be worn indoors, regardless of vaccination status, except while actively eating or drinking. This means that you can briefly remove or lower your mask to take a sip or a bite, then immediately put it back on. This does not mean you don’t need to wear a mask if you have a drink in your hand. IF YOU REFUSE TO WEAR A MASK YOU WILL BE REMOVED FROM THE SHOW WITHOUT A REFUND. IT’S YOUR CHOICE.

this was funny

As long as you are 40+, your child's risk of hospitalization is the same and risk of death is lower than yours even if you have been fully vaccinated with an mRNA vaccine and they have not. This data comes from Public Health England.

Hutch, were you the person who said we'd never see vaccine mandates?

"What is the effect of the top pilots - who refused the “vaccine” - quitting?"

Uh . . . I think I'll continue to be just fine?

Did I?

It all seems long ago

A mandate for military will meet some resistance but can be done

a national mandate seems impossible under our system of government…

I hear ya. And I'm not sure it was you, or what exactly was said. My memory is not that good.

BTW, I don't think that's Dykstra in the video. He looks way older and worse than they guy these days.
