But haven't they mostly played theatres? 930 might just be the smallest venue on their tour; after all they're playing two nights while much bigger cities just get one.
-
state and riviera are almost identical, but not that much bigger than 930. for comparison, nation is about the capaciy of the the state and riviera put together. two intimate nights of computer love...
-
im going to at least one of the nights.
-
I'm going to BOTH of those nights!

Allright don't get too jazzed. Not like they are showmen or anything. I saw them at Coachella last year and it's basically the 4 guys standing stock still in the dark behind their desktop computers, with a constant stream of films behind them. All the big hits, though, delivered loudly, but no real difference from the records. In fact they were probably just playing the records. Basically it is a good light and music show.
-
How much of that show was focused on their latest 2004 album?
-
I'm in!!! Should be a great one... Doubt they'll need a DJ for those show, but if they do Kosmette wont be seeing much of me until then, while I'm locked in the lab digging in the crates.

i can attest to the fact that they are actually doing things and not just 'pressing play'.
i was 4th row in miami and was very close to the stage.
-
HOLY CRAP!! I AM SO THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Also, Nation isn't bigger than the Riviera. The Riv holds about 2500. Nation I believe is about a thousand or so less.
-
that's freakin' awesome...their tent at coachella was so packed that i couldn't get in so i had to sit outside and listen to the set. i've been waiting for them to do a us tour for some time now. i'm shocked, but very happy, that they're playing the 9:30 rather than nation.

i had the exact same problem @ coachella. i chose to hang around for the entire radiohead set which ran over-time.
when i saw miami tacked on to their south american tour back in november i decided i had to go. i'd never been to miami and it was really nice to get away from the cold temperatures here and get down to the 70something daytime temperatures and 60ish nighttime temperatures.

Back in the seventies, Kraftwerk were good. But in 2005!!!! Come one, they had a very limited shelf life!! Especially after Mike Myers on Saturday night live and his "sprocket" (or whatever it was) skit. How could you ever take them serious again after that?

The same could easily be said about:
David Bowie
The Rolling Stones
Elton John
The Sex Pistols
Bauhaus
The Sisters of Mercy
and yet all of these bands still seem/seemed to bring in major crowds.
-
I cannot believe it...I understand the desire to see a band at its prime, but Kraftwerk are true pioneers. How could anyone lump them in with Sisters of Mercy and Elton John as a big draw? The fact of the matter is that when you go to an event like Coachella and see all these performers who are supposedly in their prime (if you go earlier in the day and see all the up-and-coming bands) but then you see Kraftwerk, then you KNOW who the real deal is. It's like seeing Iggy Pop in the sense that some people imitate, and some are TRUE originals. Iggy, the Ramones, Kraftwerk, Bowie, etc. to me are all examples. I think that anyone who thinks that age means that someone is incapable of getting on a stage and putting on a great show has a very narrow scope of music. Passion is passion, no matter what age. If you have the fire to back it up, I'll go see it. I think it just embarasses a lot of people to see rock'n'rollers getting old because this kind of music is for the young, who are supposed to be immortal. But that's bullshit. Age happens to everyone, whether you like it or not.
And for anyone who would overlook Kraftwerk because of age or some dumb SNL skit, then you're missing out. As the elder statesmen of electronic music, you just have to see it to believe how good they are. It's about music...I for one am ecstatic about the show. If anyone doesn't want to go, then good...a better chance that I'll get tickets. I guess I'm just always amazed to see ageism in rock'n'roll. I know that it's supposed to be about the young'uns, but I think that a lot of the new and "cool" bands could learn a lot by doing their homework. Kraftwerk for me would be in the first chapter for sure.
-
If the show even comes close to the show they did last year in Toronto it will be incredible. They even brought out their own personal remote control robots, just for some added visual pleasure.

OH NO! I just realized I'm going to be away for the 9:30 shows! :( Anybody know if they plan to play somewhere else close, like Electric Factory?

I was looking for comparison acts who were also somewhat "pioneer-ish" of their respective sounds/movements. Elton was a bit of a stretch.

We're in agreement here. I don't think there is any other music comparison, save perhaps travelling back in time to late 80's detroit, or to a 1977 Frankie Knuckles warehouse party. Even that takes influence from Kraftwerk at some level though.
-
I went to Toronto to see them last year. No, they won't be going the jitterbug on the stage, but you wouldn't want it any other way.

David Bowie......aged gracefully and evolved as time went on. So I disagree on that one.
Rolling Stones.....couldn't agree more
Elton John......plays Las Vegas! Need I say more?
Sex Pistols.....should never have reunited.
Bauhaus....didn't even know they had reunited.
Sisters of Mercy....not exactly pioneers of anything really so don't get your point.
-
Think of it more as an auditory experience than your typical rock show .. like going to an orchestral concert. I'm not the biggest Kraftwerk fan in the world, but if it's reasonably priced (and yes, 50$ is too goddamn much) I'll consider going. I'd shell out about a good 500 for a Neu! reunion show, however.

And kraftwerk haven't evolved at all? Listening to something like "Computer World" and then the more recent "Tour de France," you'd think they were different bands.
Bauhaus is one of the Coachella headliners this year. And even though they're not the founders of goth, I think Sisters of Mercy have done more to perpetuate the image among the young, decked in black, pasty mallwalker crowd. But like I said...a bit of a stretch.

I've got that; it's a blast.
Who remembers Love Tractor's cover of "Neon Lights"? WHFS used to play it, back before they became "HFS". And Big Black did "The Model" on Songs About Fucking.

I used to play that Love Tractor cover all the time back in my '80s DJ days and still love it. Not as big a fan of what Big Black did to The Model though, although Atomizer is one of my favorite albums of that time period.

It costs $40 for the Riviera Theater in Chicago. Probably about the same here.
-
Get 'em while they're hot!
WOO-HOO!!! This is going to be one hell of a concert :)
-
i got mine. i'll be at both shows.
just checked my stub and last year's miami show was also $40..

Yup, $40 per, not too outrageous.

yeah. it really sucks when you live 100+ miles from the box office and 99% of the time can't take advantage of the $1 service fee.
-
Got Mine! Got a load of 'em for both nights! Get 'em now before they go. This is gonna be SWEET!
-
got two for tuesday!!
-
Heh heh...I totally just half-assed my way into the Chicago presale to get my sister a ticket since she's stuck in a meeting. I had no idea what the password would be, so I was doing stuff like "autobahn"...of course, way too complicated. So I tried "robots" and it worked. Needless to say, she's going to be pretty happy.

Kraftwerk to Release 2xCD Live Album
Rob Kleckner reports:
Just as they prepare to embark on another worldwide tour, Kraftwerk are going to release their first-ever official live album. The two-disc set, Minimum-Maximum, will be released on June 7 by Astralwerks. Recorded during Kraftwerk's 2004 tour in Europe, Japan, and the U.S., the album will contain 22 tracks and should feature all of the band's best material. The full tracklist is not yet available, but should be released in the near future.
-
which show do you think will be better to go to, monday or tuesday? i can only make one as i'm 120 miles away.
-
The 40 bucks aside, why are these shows still able to be had? I seriously thought these two shows would be sold out before they ever reached this board. Maybe the end is near. All american rejects sells out on a weekday, Kraftwerk has not (yet). Maybe my time is better spent listening to dc101/107.3 and watching MTV religiously... there is just no glory on this side.

honestly i would say that it's quite likely that both shows will have virtually the same, if not identical setlists.

I'm hoping it's different than last years Toronto show but I'm not holding my breath.

You can say the same for the still not sold out Gang of Four show....

Not to mention the fact that you get Radio 4 and it's a Friday night.Dresden Dolls for 15 bucks earlier in the evening could prove to be quite an interesting way to kick the w/end off early as well.

Kraftwerk fall in the same category as Television, Gang of Four, Soft Boys, and Velvet Underground. Artists which influenced other musicians, garned critical acclaim and achieved cult status in minds of small subset of fans. Never popular enough to gain Classic Rock status and thus get airplay. Never one-hit wonders or part of an overexposed genre such as Hair Metal. Much to old to garner any attention by the TRL and OC crowd. Apparently not taken serious by the "indie" crowd. The bands also have a number of detractors.
The short answer... People would rather go to the see the lastest over hyped or "hip" act, either so they can hang with thier buds at the show, or be able to tell everyone they went to see such and such. To them Kraftwerk, etal are ancient history...

Ricoh Coliseum
Toronto, ON
April 23, 2004
By Joel McConvey
Much like their recorded output, a Kraftwerk show takes a little while to gestate, particularly if itâ??s been preceded by almost five months of anticipation â?? not to mention a 12-year hiatus, during which the German techno pioneers have ascended to the status of messiahs in the realm of electronic music. Haste is obviously not an issue for der lads and besides, their show at Torontoâ??s Ricoh Coliseum (formerly the CNEâ??s Horse Palace) offered plenty to mull over.
For one, the obvious question: why now? While the obvious answer is the quartetâ??s new record, Tour de France Soundtracks (a vague revisitiation of 1983â??s Tour De France EP, which marked the beginning of the bandâ??s obsession with cycling), the larger question still begs â?? what prompted Kraftwerk to emerge from their famed Dusseldorf studio, KlingKlang, at this juncture, particularly since the e-music communityâ??s been programming the bandâ??s praises for years?
As it turns out, the factors are myriad, but the short answer is this: Kraftwerk finally sound contemporary. And though itâ??s taken a few tweaks and revisions, itâ??s mostly just because the rest of the world has finally caught up with their squiggly synth-pop masterworks.
Thatâ??s not to say theyâ??ve won the hearts of the youth. The large Ricoh crowd was overwhelmingly male, balding, bespectacled and, well, nerdy, and this 25-year-old writer was probably the youngest person in attendance, save a few tots whoâ??d been dragged along by their parents. Two of the nightâ??s more frustrating elements â?? a lack of motion on the large, general admission Ricoh floor and a generally surly attitude among audience members â?? can be blamed on the fact that itâ??s likely been decades since most of the bandâ??s fans attended an arena show.
But once the lights went down, human quibbles took a back seat to the machines and their enigmatic keepers. Appearing first in silhouette against a red-lit backdrop, the four members of Kraftwerk (Originals Rolf Hutter and Florian Schneider and utility players Henning Schmitz and Fritz Hilpert) announced themselves for what, in 2004, they are above all: icons who revel in their own iconography. Standing straight and proper in front of new digital consoles, dressed in trademark black suits and red shirts, they presented themselves as legends â?? a move that wouldâ??ve backfired for most rock bands, but worked incredibly well for musicians whoâ??ve often used mannequins and other quasi-idols to stand in for their human forms.
Even better was that the rest of the show was spent alternately playfully reinforcing and artfully deconstructing that initial suggestion. The set, as close to a hit parade as Kraftwerk comes, often hinted at nostalgia: the rudimentary, text-heavy visuals accompanying "Man-Machine" and "Vitamin" suggested a kind of consummately European retro-futurism that faded into kitsh some time in the late-â??80s â?? they dared you to read Kraftwerk as a cultural artifact and nothing more. But for all that, the music sounded as fresh as ever. Updated versions of "Trans Europe Express" and "Radioactivity" flirted with industrial-techno and contemporary IDM, proving that Kraftwerk are still as musically forward-thinking as they were 20 years ago. With the possible exceptions of pop-esque tunes like "The Model," "Tour De France" and "Autobahn" (which, combined, constitute the sum total of what Air owes their entire existence to), the bandâ??s set wouldâ??ve sounded right at home on huge club speakers at some sweaty electro warehouse-party circa 2002 â?? or maybe even 2006.
The interplay between past and present came to a head during the bandâ??s stunning encores: a version of "The Robots" â??playedâ?? by Kraftwerkâ??s android avatars, and a visually captivating mini-set in which the band re-emerged as gllowing green cyborgs, churning out precise, minimalist versions of "Elektro Kardiogramm," new tune "Aerodynamik" and classic "Musique Non-Stop." The last two tunes in particular were wry statements from a band so clearly aware of their own mythmaking, yet so gloriously focused on innovation that they come off as almost oblivious to the real implications of their music. The songs were, in fact, downright playful â?? a quality of the band that its legion of turtle-necked disciples would do well to remember next time theyâ??re standing on a dance floor, thinking so intently about the concept of motion that theyâ??re unable to move. Even the man-machine needs to get loose sometimes and Kraftwerk proved, if anything, that they deserve the recognition they get for spearheading the modern dance music movement â?? and that really, a 12-year holiday isnâ??t so outlandish when youâ??ve created the template for an entire universe of sound.

Although I am bespectacled, I am not male and balding and I was a the Toronto show.
There were more people under 35 than I had expected to see, and I didn't get the aggro vibe from the audience that the reviewer got at all. I left my seat and was dancing in one of the large portal areas, where I met a bunch of interesting folks from all over. Some from the Toronto area, one from Montreal, one from England originally but now living in NYC, and a couple from Chicago. Everyone was just dancing around and it was a good time.
His show review is pretty accurate though...the films and lighting were stunning, the sound quality was excellent [especially for an arena show], and their outfits were cool. I was glad they brought the robots. It was a career retrospective set list and I heard most everything I was hoping for. It was definitely worth the trip up there to see them and I'm psyched to see them again here, even if they do the exact same show as they did in Toronto.
OK, so the friend that I went with is male, balding, over 40 and bespectacled.

yeah, the crowd in miami was really varied. people were dancing all in the aisles and such too. the show was at the jackie gleason theater and while it's not a rock show or anything, the elderly ushers really weren't able to keep the crowds in their seats or anything. overall it was a really fun show. not sure what it'll be like @ 930, but i know the sound will be good.. and if it doesn't sell out, that's just more space for the rest of us.

Back in the seventies, Kraftwerk were good. But in 2005!!!! Come one, they had a very limited shelf life!! Especially after Mike Myers on Saturday night live and his "sprocket" (or whatever it was) skit. How could you ever take them serious again after that?

whatever happened to gallagher... is he in Florida yelling at kids to get off his lawn?
Kraftwerk? Limited shelf life?
Now that's funny.
I mean I guess it depends how you define "shelf life"....reallly its just an argument about semantics i'm guessing...but arguably their shelf life is unlimited...I mean electronics have take over music.. the computer , as they foresaw, in 1980, has kind of taken over the world and everything we do..I'm at my computer typing these words, you are at yours reading them... the kind of music they were making and the things they were talking about are the present and arguably still the future..
I mean yeah... things are not like this anymore... its hard to relate to these lyrics?

Seriously, for a board that bitches about bands being past their prime, not being relevant, etc... Couldn't pick a better band than Kraftwerk.

i have never listened to them . . . should i? or will i be clouded by the future that came after them?
-
i have never listened to them . . . should i? or will i be clouded by the future that came after them?
I don't know... if you listen to them you probably won't believe the fuss.. probably only would recommend if you're into music history or something
when music becomes largely adopted/coopted it sounds like nothing special..because everything that comes after it kinda sounds the same or rather builds on it......chuck berry is another good example
-
i have never listened to them . . . should i? or will i be clouded by the future that came after them?
I just don't think electronic music would sound the same without Kraftwerk. They're kind of like the Velvet Underground of electronic music. I'd start with "the Man Machine" or "Trans Europe Express". The song "Metal on Metal" was probably one of the first industrial songs. Kraftwerk is one of my all-time favorite concerts. I really don't think that folks should miss this one. If you've never seen them before, don't miss it.

I disagree simply because Kraftwerk has the songwriting to back up what they were doing. "The Hall of Mirrors" still gives me chills. The austerity of Cold War Germany is so palpable that it's almost scary. I think anyone with an open mind will find a Kraftwerk LP that will make their jaw hit the floor, even now.

^kinda makes my point for me... you're making an argument that Kraftwerk is important to music history.. I agree with you... but I doubt Walkie is a music "historian"....

I just don't think electronic music would sound the same without Kraftwerk. They're kind of like the Velvet Underground of electronic music. I'd start with "the Man Machine" or "Trans Europe Express". The song "Metal on Metal" was probably one of the first industrial songs.
^kinda makes my point for me... you're making an argument that Kraftwerk is important to music history.. I agree with you... but I doubt Walkie is a music "historian"....
(http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/640x480q90/690/3pon.jpg) (https://imageshack.com/i/j63ponj)
I don't understand though...are you saying that it's not good music? Or are you saying that we shouldn't listen to music unless it's current?

yah its hard to explain...
its good music...it was revolutionary when it came out.. now its a bit dated... now some people enjoy music with great historic value..music of influence..they like figuring out what came first..what influenced what..
other people just want to listen to "good music"..they don't attach any value to the influence/pioneering aspect.. i think when acts like kraftwerk and chuck berry are stripped off of that aspect to their music they lose a lot of weight.....

I guess the thing about Kraftwerk is they have a very particular stage show... so Walkie maybe you would enjoy it.

did yall know that the kraftwerk, are getting a lifetime achievement award at this year's grammys?

I thought you were kidding but took the bait anyway. Sho' nuff (http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/beatles-kraftwerk-isley-brothers-to-receive-lifetime-grammys-20131212)
And check this out: Kraftwerk: the most influential group in pop history? (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/music/rockandpopfeatures/9837423/Kraftwerk-the-most-influential-group-in-pop-history.html)

Totally nitpicking but giving them an early show slot is a little weird, no?
Don't get me wrong; early Kraftwerk is better than no Kraftwerk.
Edit: Maybe they will add a 2nd show?

hmm...interesting and bad.. I hate early shows...particularly given its Friday...
so either Kraftwerk will play two shows that night or somebody else will play after them would be my guess....its particularly odd as I don't think they will have an opener...
-
Happy for an early show as ill be there with my 12 year old daughter. Who loves Kraftwerk.
-
Holy fuck I just sounded like James Ford, didn't I?

In most cities where they announced an early show last year, they announced a late show later... Although it would be exactly the same set.
-
Yeah the set is most likely set for the whole tour. Especially if projections are as big a part of the show as it sounds.
-
Holy fuck I just sounded like James Ford, didn't I?
;D
nah...James would have thrown in something hyping his daughter... like "she's the only kid in her class who knows all the lyrics to Kraftwerk but in German...."...

What's the over/under on how long it takes this show to sell out?
-
Last time they sold out pretty much the day of but I get the feeling this(these) will be a hotter ticket. Feels like they have had a higher profile over the last year or two.
-
So this gig is going onsale on Thursday - and due to work i'll be away from a computer most of the day. Are there any boardies that wouldn't mind getting 2 tickets for me? PM me if you can help! (you'll of course be reimbursed immediately)
-
Funny you should mention her. She's working on mastering her fifth language now, Korean. That after mastering Spanish, German, and French by the time she was five. I attribute her advanced abilities to breastfeeding her until she was three. Of course, she spoke English straight out of the womb. I attribute that to our singing to her when she was still in the womb.
So I reckon she has five languages she could sing Kraftwerk songs in. Alas, she outgrew anything resembling rock music by the time she was four and only listens to classical and jazz these days. Though for some inexplicable reason she has a soft spot for that song from Frozen. Go figure.

speaking of projections: this show is being billed as "Kraftwerk: 3-D Concert".
-
I asked my boss to take a "15 minutes off" at 10am... :P
In Germany some of the shows were sold out in 1 minute. I guess it will be the same set as last year but at I will hear the English version for a change!
-
this is overpriced by $25.....
-
in other news, looks like the 930 is the smallest venue they're playing this tour, and only one of two GAs (likely some or all the moog fest venues will also be GA, but for now are unknown)
http://www.kraftwerk.com/concerts/index-concerts.html
-
this is overpriced by $25.....
If it sells out (and it likely will) then it won't be. When PIL charged the same and it didn't sell out, that was definitely overpriced.

Yup
-
I wish I could continue the full album series after seeing four of them last year, but that was also ~65$ per show, so for the 10 shows ~650$, so after all, maybe I am glad I didn't watch all shows.
I have seen all Kraftwerk songs but two of them! ("Metropolis" and "La Forme")
-
Think the MOMA shows were only $25.
United Palace just added another show.

-
no problem getting a ticket this morning
-
i dusted off my rusty ol' ticket buying mojo, fearing a clusterf*ck scramble for tickets... all for naught. got tickets easy-peasy.
however, at 10:04 all tickets were in baskets... so it's sold out, folks (or about to be).
-
I'll bet sales will be brisk. Last time they played 2 nights. First night sold out relatively fast, second night didn't sell out which was sort of nice because there was a little room to dance. I am SO excited for this show. It'll be fantastic.
-
Got mine! ;D
-
they've added a *third* show in oakland. i'm pretty sure we'll be getting a late show, or another night. so far they haven't booked any venue for two shows in a single night.
-
Betao you have tickets.
-
I am stunned we've discussed this show this much without someone coming out of the woodwork to tell us all we are paying a lot of money to watch "four guys push play" like we hear every time anyone expresses any hope Daft Punk will tour soon.
-
easy
-
got 'em - no school (again), so easy to get to the computer.
time for a marathon listen.

very astute observation. i'm not sure if i should be proud of this group for their restraint, or embarrassed by their selective use of a universal complaint?

As Vas Deferens prophecized!!
-
Well shit I really wanted to use this today. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3XvL59l6pw)
-
So how much time did it take to sell out?
-
"were sorry, all available tickets are currently in other shopping carts. please keep trying, they may soon become available."
i have never, seen that before.
-
So how much time did it take to sell out?
10:03 or 10:04, per my post on the previous page
-
"were sorry, all available tickets are currently in other shopping carts. please keep trying, they may soon become available."
i have never, seen that before.
I, have, seen, it, often...
The, cart, hawks, are, simply, holding, tickets, until, time, expires, and, then, dumping, them...
-
I pulled a single (then released it) at 10:17
-
just pulled a single at 11:10 am.
-
just pulled a single at 11:10 am.
So did Walky, but uh, never mind.
-
no, i didnt. i just went to see how quickly, indeed, it did sell out. i still, have not listened to them . . . and for all i know, they suck, live or not.
-
I watched a few Youtube clips. Getting crazy excited for the show now. So awesome.
-
None Available
-
Late show now on sale. 10 PM doors.
-
I'm surprised the late show has been announced for almost an hour and we haven't had a repeat of the surprise Belle and Sebastian late show fiasco (http://forum.930.com/index.php?topic=9529.0) from like 9 years ago.
-
did you notice that there was a person called "paige" in that b&s thread, whos original name was "i heart walkie"? how odd.

I'd assume the fan base of Kraftwerk would appreciate getting home by 10pm and calling it a night, no?
-
Big thanks to RatBastard for getting me tickets. Looking forward to this one!

Pretty sure that refers to a now retired boardie who went by the handle "Walkman."
-
yeah . . . i knew it wasnt me. ive never even been to ft reno.
and how dare . . . anybody "retire."

Retired? He always seemed like a young guy to me.

Has it been established exactly what sort of show this is going to be? Like, is it 'the hits' while a bunch of 3d crap flashes on a screen? Or is it some artsy-fartsy "re-imagining" of the Kraftwerk experience?
-
Sounds like the former.
Guessing that hoping for anything from the first three albums is futile.

third stockholm show is tonight. it's the same "3D" tour.
-
Haven't you seen the 2004-2005 shows? I'm pretty sure they played around here.
It might be 3D, but nothing much has changed since then, perhaps a few different songs on the setlist, so it's not like there will be something unexpected.
And certainly in this case, the late show is not going to get anything more than the early show.
-
Az only digs 4D shows.
-
the early will be cut short, just like any other early shows at the 930. hehe

May 30 & 31, 2004 - after man machine and a few newer tunes, they went back to autobahn and did a basically chronological set - I would not mind seeing that again - no Florian, however.
-
So the tickets were $35?
this is overpriced by $25.....
-
I'd be so tired if I'm part of Kraftwerk and have to stand and hit play for 4 hours, assuming each show is 2 hours long.
-
They don't just "hit play."
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SEcroOaQluw
They are on stage with sequencers and synthesizers.
-
late show not sold out yet.
-
Lead melodies are generally played live; countermelodies and rhythms are under constant live refinement.

70 year old dudes hitting play and saying "we are robots" does seem sort of comical.

The same could easily be said about:
David Bowie
The Rolling Stones
Elton John
The Sex Pistols
Bauhaus
The Sisters of Mercy
and yet all of these bands still seem/seemed to bring in major crowds.
Obvioulsy you weren't at the last Sisters of Mercy show at the club.

That "Ruckzuck" is devastating.

Who is going to which show? Anyone doing both? Considering it with the low prices on stubhub.

the missus and i are planning on doing the early show, logistics TBD.
has anyone received their tickets yet? i haven't.

Early.

Dean Wareham early
Kraftwerk late

early show for me.....

Anyone interested in drinks (and free Julian campaign swag) between the two shows? Maybe at Duffy's or Brixton? (I'm assuming they'll clear out the Back Bar because of the time constraints between the two shows.) Let me know!

(I'm assuming they'll clear out the Back Bar because of the time constraints between the two shows.)

Hey, guys, I'm leaving to head up that way shortly. Sadly, a back problem will preclude me from being on the floor but come look for me in the seats on the balcony since we never seemed to get any organized meetup after the show together. Cheers.
-
dammit. looks like we won't be making the show tonight. bummed.
tickets are for sale (early show) in the "for sale" forum, in case anyone needs them & can come get them.

i have an exploding cold situation so i'm really gimping to this/these shows most pathetically.. i'm not feeling that great or i'd make more of an outreach effort..
however if you see a thin guy about 6 2 if straight 6 ft with stooped posture wearing thin red ll bean jacket (nope its jcrew).. one of those white things people wear to the beach with the front kangaroo pocket and a string on each side and blue jeans and black ll beans snow-ish boots..looking rather maybe a bit jeff goldblum-esque...my hair has gotten long due to hospital stay/rehabilitation...welll say hi... i may leave early to go to dean wareham and i may get there just as they go on and i hang by lower left bar... i try to sidle my way forward past the burrito stand
hmm
-
got a really good deal on tickets for the early show on Stubhub. Looks like some scalpers had some failed scalps.
holy shit, this gig was so awesome!
-
I bailed on kraftwerk... in the end i could not get past the fact i wanted to see dean wareham and a few other issues (only 1 original kraft dude), and my exploding cold, recovery issues......at 7 pm the presumed start time it looked like the line extended around the block.. i even saw seth out there talking to some guy that looked like a press dude.. also saw a kraftwerk crew dude (number 23...germanic organization) who was talking to the 930 staffer about when they were going to get everyone in the building...i decided to take it easy and just go see dean..clearly kraft was going to start late....
but i'm happy with my choice.... wareham soundedd great.. he got a good crowd too.... he played new stuff, galaxie stuff, luna stuff and indian summer... the second encore was ceremony (spectacular)
i hope you all had fun at kraftwerk!
-
Show started around 7:20 presumably after the line cleared. Overall, I thought the show in 2005 was better than this one. And other than opening videos for Robots, Numbers the 3D animation really didn't add a whole lot to the experience. My favorite bit was extended version of Tour De France and concert ending Boing Boom Tschak / Techno Pop / Musique Non Stop medley. Show just seemed tepid overall....

Pretty much agree, although I probably liked the 3D more than you. Good mix of tunes but some of the arrangements were disappointing, especially "Airwaves". Barely any "Metal On Metal" during TEE. Florian obviously meant more to the band than Ralf thought.
I also almost bailed due to illness but loathed to piss away nearly $70 (yeah, I nabbed it on first sale...).
And everybody got a souvenir:

well I thought the whole thing was just a wonderful unique work of art
-
Same for early set, minus the last song:
The Robots
Metropolis
Numbers / Computer World
It's More Fun to Compute / Home Computer
Computer Love
The Man-Machine
Spacelab
The Model
Neon Lights
Autobahn
Tour de France 1983
Tour de France Étape 1
Tour de France Étape 2
Airwaves
Intermission / News / Radioactivity
Trans-Europe Express / Metal on Metal /Abzug
Boing Boom Tschak / Techno Pop / Musique Non Stop
Aéro Dynamik
Planet of Visions / Expo 2000
-
I just had an MRI. 35 minutes of loud electronic buzzing, and it was done.
Just like a Kraftwerk show, right?
-
I thought the concert was absolutely spectacular and the balcony was not that crowded. A really unique experience.

Would have like to have heard this in the early show, it was my favorite in the 2005 show. It being their homage to the Detroit Techno scene.
-
Remember back in the day when Belle and Sebastian played the club and it sold out immediately and a late show was added and everyone lost their shit because they were certain the late show would be longer? This actually just played out and everyone is being cool about it. When did we all collectively grow up?
-
It was an awesome show, the sound was superb. Really groovy bass, especially during Numbers.
Just wish it wouldn't have been so crowded. Seth, I'm not sure if the later gig was oversold, but if it was, please don't do that again! The crowd was pretty chatty, too.

On the contrary I would say the chatters consider the venue their own living room.

Seth, I described the concert to people as something that transcends a "concert"...it was indeed art. The last time they were here in 2005, I thought musically there was a little more bounce and darkness, which I enjoyed. However, this time I thought it was one of the most artistic things I've ever seen at any concert, let alone at the 9:30 Club. I thought the same thing about the last Nine Inch Nails show. It was an experience. No video or camera phone snapshot could do it justice. You simply had to be there, get lost in the moment, and let yourself absorb it. Stunning. Thank you so much for bringing this here. And FYI, the folks I talked to drove from all over the place. We were very, very fortunate to have had a chance to enjoy this one.

Fair enough Sethy. Maybe the balcony wasn't as bad as the floor.
As for the talkative crowd, I know they exist at alot of shows - I just wasn't as expecting it at a show like KW.
Thank you for bringing them, as always.
-
talkative crowd are always in the back.
lots of room in front and no one talked
