Who watched last night?
Amazing foreshadowing to start the episode. Is Walt on the run?? Does he have a new identity (beard, glasses, new ID, New Hampshire plates)? Cancer is back (cough)?
Is Skyler going to crack and turn on him??
I love this show!
-
Great show! Last night was no different.
The magnet to destroy the laptop part was awesome. I was on the edge of my seat, holding my breath that they didnt get caught.
Skyler = WHY? and who cares?
-
Yeah BITCH! MAGNETS!!!
-
This show makes me anxious and irritable.
-
Currently on Season 3 and don't have cable.
Must avoid this thread!

This show makes me anxious and irritable.
Oh, god, me too. Leading to the season finale last year was intense.
Last night was increidble, the magnets were so awesome. Seeing Saul cower in front of Walt was intense. I missed the first couple of minutes, I need to go back and rewatch it....

Definitely go back and rewatch, the beginning scene with Walt in the diner is awesome!

hahaha, true... but I love it!
-
Loved the last episode of last season.
Time away from the show, but funny how easy it is to fall back into that nervous gut feeling. He's a bad, bad man. (Magnets!) PME.
(Hope I didn't miss anything in the diner scene - seemed standard to me...?)

i love how denny's bathroom exchanges and semi-automatic weapons seem standard in this show.

Nothing missed, but I think it gave an interesting glimpse into what's to come... On the run, new identity, purchasing war-esque machine guns, etc.
-
Yeah BITCH! MAGNETS!!!
All I kept thinking about was this when Jesse brough up the idea of magnets:

so do you guys think the laptop erase actually worked? we only know that the screen cracked!
-
I think it worked, but my guess is they'll find out about Walt through the offshore accounts/Saul.

I agree... that bank info in the picture frame is going to screw things up.

No wedding ring in this scene either!

Great recap.

when he said "I forgive you"...wow, set the tone of the season already. Cringeworthy! Shall be interesting to see what led to the diner...I didn't see what was behind the picture...interesting...I just thought it was a love letter to his lover and that they would tie him to the cartel and then it would lead to Walt. Your observation is much more thorough!

hilarious. Aaron Paul (or the early makings of his character, Jesse?) on Price is Right: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nB4Lz0Wb0MI

Oddly enough I thought last week's premiere was a very weak episode. Beyond the Denny's opening, the episode just didn't bear much weight in its plot line. Season four wrapped up with a bow: Walt brilliantly murders a major drug lord, finally giving Hank his 'Heisenberg', and eventually stands to become the sole meth kingpin in the ABQ and beyond. With that said, why go backwards by devoting an episode to magnetism? This ain't Mythbusters. Clearly, Hank's going to see the wreckage outside the evidence room and realize Heisenberg is still out there. Why not have Walt snatch the laptop last season and start fresh in season five?
Mike's return didn't add much either. Last season he was a cleaner/hitman/fixer, cold blooded and bad ass. Now, he's like a petulant little brother, trying to be the Debbie Downer instead of the hitman. Sure, he used to work for Gus but it always felt more like a job than a longstanding loyalty. A guy like Mike would respect the business end of Gus' killing and remove the emotion of the act.
Ted's still alive? Really?
Regardless, it's a tremendous show. I just didn't think that episode was very good. Magnets, bitch.

Mike sure as hell ain't no petulant little brother as of last night's episode!

Albeit only a bowl of cereal, it was comforting to see Walt Jr. get a breakfast for the first time this season.

How the hell did Walt go from making $7million + a year to being broke?
-
They're gonna LOST us and go backwards from the begining and...meet.... in the middle........
And he owes Jesse 40 grand? Just for the magnet? Did I hear that right?
-
Yes. Just for the magnet.
-

True story! lol
-
I was thinking last night about how us as the audience, we're not that much smarter than Walt. (or at least me). How he thought that by killing Gus, then that would be the end of it. And not that there were things WAY greater than Gus involved.
Brilliant.

Have these people ever been inside a containment wearing full face respirators and tyvek suits? It bothers me to no end that they are never sweating!
Annoying.

landry no!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Crucifictorious murders again.

makin' meth is hard.

I gotta say, I'm afraid breaking bad has jumped the shark... Train heists? Come on...

they've crashed planes into each other, i don't think a train heist is really that crazy.

When did they crash planes into each other? A mourning/distracted father did that, not a junkie and a chemistry teacher.

was just saying the show in general has done some pretty insane shit. no reason to get hung up on how crazy or plausible something really is. it's been 1 year since walt start cooking meth and there has been an insane amount of shit to go down.
-
Goddamn it. Mike was straight legend.
-
yeah what a pointless way to go.
-
So annoyed about Mike.
-
I loved the intro, I hated the end. Generally how this show goes. 1 more episode!? UGH! Is it coming back in the Spring? Way too long.
-
It's not coming back until next summer, I believe. Also annoying.
-
It's the only show I care about on TV..... that isn't on [adult swim] or sports. Sigh. I feel like the season is just ramping up and there's only 1 episode left :\
-
Only one more left?? I don't see how things can come full circle in one more episode.
-
Well, season 5 is broke up into 2 halves, 1 episode left in the first half. Technically, 9 more episodes left in the full season/series.
-
Best episode of the season for sure. Really bummed about Mike, BUT... is he dead?
Also, Todd (the new cook) I think has something up his sleeve. Is he trying to steal walt's recipe (writing things down)? Working with that other gang?
-
I have a feeling Todd is undercover.

Murdering kids?? I don't think so.

He was writing down the numbers Walt was telling me, like he told Jesse and Gail, he was reviewing the numbers to make sure he got it right. I don't think he has anything up his sleeve. I mean, he fucking shot a kid.
-
F*** reading this thread before watching.

The producers said before the show started that Todd is not who he seems.
Much like the owls of Twin Peaks.
Yeah, definitely don't read this thread before watching it.
-
I wouldn't be surprised, but after seeing him shoot a kid I thought "....he can't really be a cop", could be someone sent from a NEW Cartel possibly?
-
his brothers jail time that mike checked into... well with mike dead, no one knows his background anymore.
i initially thought the theory that there is way more depth to Todd was silly, but i'm starting to think that's true.
-
Why did he take that kids spider.......
-

I think he's working with the gang of dudes from the beginning of this week's episode. He's stealing Walt's cooking method!
-
6353 Juan Tabo, Apt 6.
That son of a bitch just won't die.
-
That ending is something I've been waiting to see since they've established Walter and Hank's relationship. I guess that shitstorm could only last so many episodes [ie, the last 8 of the series].

Is Mike really dead? We didn't hear a gun shot go off just Walt left him to do whatever down by the water...
Todd is definitely crooked and I believe stealing Walt's cooking method, but with Walt being "out" who knows what's going to happen!
-
Pretty sure they put Mike in one of those containers with the chemicals that will turn him into jelloy pudding...so.... we can put those theories to rest.

Amazing scene/episode.
And yes, Mike is dead.

I've been so busy I'm not concentrating as much this season (and it's kinda the same 'ol, same 'ol) but I get that it's Gale's address, but what else did I miss?
-
The book in the bathroom was signed to WW from Gale, then Hank flashes back to one of the books he had gotten from Gale's apartment and it also said "To WW".
-
Thoughts on the season thus far??
Why can't Jesse f'n keep it together?
Will he rat on Walt?
Will Walt off Hank?
Will the new white trash gang come after Walt?
I'm going to be bummed when this show is over... Low Winter Sun has been pretty good thus far though.
-
Only saw the first episode of low winter sun. Thought it was pretty good and will follow it.
i can only handle one or two shows at a time.

Likewise, Breaking Bad is actually the only show I currently watch.
-
Breaking Bad is the only drama I care about anymore. THAT being said, this last episode was kind of boring. Can Jesse keep it together? I think all the shit he's gone through in the past, what, 2 years is kind of pushed him over an edge he's never been to.
Just like when Walt tried to burn all of his own money, but he realized what the ultimate goal was. Walt tried to shoot himself, then tried to burn all of his money. Jesse is just psychologically not there yet. Will he be? I doubt it. Does he narc on Walter? Possibly.
We keep seeing these flash forwards [Walt's 52 in them, I think he's 50 or 51 currently] so that's coming soon. He has all those guns in his trunk... Maybe he takes on that hillbilly gang. Who's in his corner? Saul? Who is ready to leave the country at the drop of a hat? Jesse? The insanity is reaching critical levels.
-
I've obviously never met you, but when i read your posts on here, I always think of Jesse. How close am I?

I think it's pretty clear that Walt's family is way way gone. I'm going for Skyler to break and disappear.
I want Jesse to rat on Walt. Is that wrong? It doesn't really fit with the arch of the show though.
-
Bryan Cranston said in an interview "what if what Walt really wanted, to protect his family and have them around, what if that's gone? What does he do then?"
I don't want Walt arrested or dead though. I don't know how I want it to end. Love this show.

Yeah... I'm perplexed too... and I'm finally like Skyler after five seasons... and I'm currently liking Walt!!!
-
I want Walt dead in a bad way.
It was a few seasons ago when I began to loathe him and I realized just how good a show this was, that it could make me feel so strongly about the characters.
-
Dexter? I want him dead. The characters from Walking Dead? I want them all to be eaten alive for an entire season. Mary Louise Parker from Weeds? I wanted her dead. I didn't finish watching it though. Everyone on Mad Men? Dead.
Breaking Bad is the only drama on TV that I really care about the characters [except Skyler for a long time] for some reason I always turn on the main character, but I love Walt. I think he's gotten himself way too deep, but he knows what he's doing and has gotten this far and is now out. I don't want him to die at all, him getting caught doesn't sit right with me... or him getting caught... He should just ride off into the sunset and live happily ever after with his family...until the cancer gets him...
Jesse's too much of a wild card. Hank's burn to bring him in is too much. I always feel like people come up just short when trying to get the best of Walt.... I don't know how I want the show to end but I'm GLAD it's THIS good and coming to an end. Too many shows have gone way beyond their time. Fucking LOVE Breaking Bad. Will be super bummed when it's over.

I think deep down inside I want to see the evil Walt come out and take out Hank... or... give Hank the option to share the wealth and drop the investigation. The sad part is, Walt is going to die of the cancer no matter what happens is my guess. He's obviously off treatment with the flashbacks but still coughing and visibly not looking in great shape.
-
Outrageous episode...
One quick question I had re: the cigarette scene at the end of the episode. Did Jesse pulling out that pack of cigarettes trigger his memory?? It wasn't the actually pack of cigarettes that had the poison, correct?
-
he realized his bag of pot was lifted from him, which made him have the epiphany that the resin cigarette was lifted from him by saul's guys, too.
-

Gotcha.
-
That ending was crazy... I guess that's why we see the house boarded up at the beginning of the season?
-
I was confused that interaction as well. And how awesome was that video Walt made.
-

i don't think so. there wasn't evidence of a fire, IIRC.
and plus, carol is all bummed out, which makes me believe his house got raided.
-

SO FUCKING AWESOME.
the cinematography always impresses me with this show, but how fucking incredible was it, watching hank and marie, watch walt?
-
While driving back from vacation, we listened to the Fresh Aire interview with Bob Odenkirk(?) which is excellent. And the Jeff Garlin podcast with Vince Gilligan. Both of them made us want to watch the series again from the start. Also, looking forward to a possible Saul spin-off, his henchmen are character. In themselves.

hmmm... I thought the house was burnt out? Maybe not? I re-watched with my partner last night who missed it on Sunday and caught where Saul's goon snagged Jesse's bag o' weed when walking out of his office. I missed that the other night.

I remember seeing the windows boarded up.. when he breaks in, the house was just dimly lit, I can't remember any damage on the inside.
So many moments I watch in this show and I feel like I'm watching a movie on a big screen. It's so well shot. That and some moments they have with their music. Gah. Really gonna miss this show. 5 more episodes!

Ok, this made me giggle.

Did not see that coming
-
Three cheers for the Simpsons opening tonight.
-
How good was that episode? Only a few left.
-
HOLY FUCK
i guess it's pretty clear who walt's gonna shoot up to end the series.
-
I want Jesse to win so bad. He's absolutely right. Walt can't keep getting away with it. I just KNEW those guys were going to show up at the end. I did NOT think that's how the episode was going to end.
3 fucking more episodes. This season is flying by.
-
I want Jesse to win too, but he was just as illegal as Walt. Although I guess you could make a case that he was manipulated by Walt.
-

Did the gang realize Walt was in the SUV they were completely blowing apart? I'm assuming not?
-
I think they show a sort of POV of the guy looking at the cops and then looking at the SUV. You could her Walt yelling from the distant angle those guys were at. He also did look at the Cadillac and saw Jesse sitting in the car. I'm assuming they know Pinkman and White are in those 2 cars. Wondering if they think it was some kind of set-up.
Also could be that they think Walt's been caught since they saw Jesse and 2 guys "claiming" to be cops. So they could think the jig is up and thought to kill them all and go back to cooking their meth.
-
True. But, they need Walt. My guess is everyone dies but Walt and he has to go kill Cruicifictorius and his relatives so he can get on with his life.
-
Given the heartfelt phone call with Marie, ("I got him") and the extended, slow-mo shots of Hank at the start of the gun fight, I am betting that Hank is killed.
-
that's how i saw it too. they are well aware that jesse is there, and that walt is there.
i don't think they are killing everyone. they need someone to cook their meth, so they are going to take either jesse, walt, or both.
hank and gomez are definitely toast.
jesse was getting out of the car last time we saw him. i have no clue what happens to him, but my best guess is uncle jack takes jesse hostage as a cook, and they leave walt alone, since, you know, he was just arrested. but since walt's evidence has suddenly dissapeared, he isn't arrested, and he dissapears to settle the score and save jesse.
-
What if Hank and Gomie are killed and Walt fakes his own death to get away (to New Hampshire from the flash forward) and all the police find are these two DEA agents out in the wilderness and Walt's "if you're watching this, I'm probably already dead" DVD and people really think Hank was the mastermind the entire time.
Hank then comes back to kill the Nazis, who possibly stole all his money, (with the gun) and Jesse (with the ricin) to avenge his brother-in-law/his empire.
/fanboy theory that's not coming true
-
Andy Greenwald made an interesting point over on Grantland that the show ostensibly should be in 2007-2008 since it started in 2007 and we haven't passed a year in the show's timetable -- something Gilligan has perpetuated by having characters buy new PT Cruisers and flipphones that aren't made anymore -- and yet the Neo-nazis for some reason reference us getting Bin Laden. Continuity hole.
-

Ah, to rescue Jesse. That would be the ultimate.
-
I want to know why Walt was so insistent on not having the locks charged. To me that suggests someone else other than his family has access to the house.

Because he was initially trying to keep that from Skyler and say it was an accident. If he wanted the locks changed, that would show a threat.

Oh, thanks. To flesh it out a little more, Walt's faking his death to escape being a methcook slave to the nazis, not the DEA. We have no indication anyone in the DEA knows anything about the investigation and Hank and Gomie are just going rogue.
I feel like Jesse should be dead too but it doesn't square with the flashforward of going back for Chekov's ricin. You can't kill 10 neonazis with a little ricin and if that's the plan, what does he need the machine gun for. The machine gun is clearly indicated to wipe out a group of people; ricin is much more personal.
-

^^That. Also, Walt has this desire throughout the show to show he's entirely in control and his decisions will have no unintended consequences on his family. It's almost like an affront to him if his family has to suffer the mild inconvenience of getting new keys. It speaks to him not being The One Who Knocks in everything.

All makes sense except Walk faking his death to the Nazis. How could that happen, they'll obviously come up to the car and see him alive in there, no?
-
Wasn't Walt wearing some sort of camo in the flash forward? This is the same Walt that blew up a fucking building he was in with 4 other dudes and managed to espace almost unscathed. He takes them down at their hillbilly meth farm, takes their machine gun and.......kills people.
-

IDK, maybe they take him at first and he escapes and since no one has seen him in forever he's presumed dead at Hank's hand or... idk. Its a fanwank theory.
There's a theory floating around on the internet that has screen shots of E0501 with Walt having a clear electronic wire visible under his clothing which leads some to think he goes state's witness. I don't buy into that.

Per The Twitter "Better Call Saul" is a GO. And better yet it's a "prequel", bet they get lots of cool cameos on it.
-
I dunno how interesting that spin-off will be... Especially with a limited run, unless it takes place....10 to 15 years ago.... I guess they've gotten 5 seasons out of Breaking Bad and it's only been, what, a year in the actual story?
-
sort of agree...it's a good side character for Breaking Bad but don't know how much mileage they'd get out of him otherwise, guess it depends on storyline

I concur. I couldn't be less enthused for a Better Call Saul spinoff. It seems like one of those SNL movies where the character is amusing in 4-5 minute doses but an entire 90 minutes will fail miserably.

HOLY FUCK LAST NIGHT
I'm kinda speechless.
-
That was such an emotionally brutal episode. For how much they really, REALLY made me had Skyler, last night I did a complete 180 and I never EVER thought that I would sympathize for her. Jesus Christ, I felt so fucking terrible for Walt Jr when he found out. I felt so terrible for Skyler in that final sequence. Walt is an absolute monster, but you can see that even he can't handle it. His phone conversation and his voice were so fucking evil. I loved it.
My friend pointed out that Marie is almost always wearing something purple [favorite color?], but last night she was wearing black. She did just watch all 4.5 seasons in the past month, so maybe there's some symbolism some may have missed. Insane. If last week was one of the crazier visual and action packed episode of the series, this was by far one of the most emotionally battering episodes of the entire series.

Even if Walt's most evil and brutal moment, he did protect Skyler. On the phone he basically confessed that he did it all on his own and she knew "nothing."
Poor Pinkman, dude can't catch a break!!

yeah, the phone conversation was an act. after holly calls for her mother over and over, he realizes that he's fucked them, and decides to try and salvage.

I think Vince Gilligan's true genius lies in the fact that he has made people like a murderous meth manufacturer while simultaneously hating his wife, who has a (relatively) straighter moral compass and does far more for the family than Walt ever has.
Anna Gunn wrote a nice op-ed in the New York Times a few weeks ago: I Have A Character Issue (http://www.nytimes.com/2013/08/24/opinion/i-have-a-character-issue.html)
-
i'm thinking he finds that the blue meth has resurfaced. he realizes that they didn't kill jesse, and they are making him cook. i think the gun is for the nazis, the white family is dead, the ricin is for lydia, and he saves jesse.

I'm not sure why these idiots want to stay in the meth business when they just heisted nearly 70 million dollars?
Do you think the Nazis take out Skyler?

yeah, the scene with todd and jesse, and jesse admits there is a tape out there with the full admission... well, marie has it somewhere in the house, and i'm thinking she's toast, along with the whole white family.

That slipped my mind, I was so wrapped up in the moment. He KNEW cops were there.
Also, yeah, he's coming back to kill those dudes. That has to be how he gets a machine gun.... Unless Saul has a machine gun guy.

This is an alarmingly astute observation, ggw. I felt like Walt's phone call -- along the with the obvious plot point of trying to protect Skyler -- is something of a commentary by Gilligan to the more misogynistic Bro-tastic wing of Breaking Bad fans and their absolute disgust for the Skyler character, while loving Jesse and even in some cases, Walt. There is a certain vein of BB fans who view this show entirely from a high concept viewpoint who love the one-liners and explosions and gun fights but miss the low concept/character development viewpoint and thereby see Skyler only as a detriment to the action instead of the realistic, interesting character study she is.
SN: I love Breaking Bad and The Wire, but if someone tells me those are their two favorite TV shows of all time (and especially if they follow it up with commenting Mad Men "sucks" or "nothing ever happens on it") then I know I'm dealing with an idiot and don't even want to speak to them. Why is this?
-
I've never seen The Wire, but I did get through the first 2 seasons of Mad Men and I DO think it's boring, but I don't go around saying it sucks. I can see why people like it, but it just isn't my kind of drama. I COULD stare at Christina Hendricks all day though.
As for Breaking Bad I think one think they really did well was kind of making me intrigued by almost every single character and not being emotionally invested in any of them. I felt for Jesse when his girl died and have always sympathized for him, but he's a huge piece of shit and a total idiot. I never thought Walt was a badass or anything until probably season 3 or 4 and I never sympathized with him and this second half of season 5 I finally decided I wanted him to get caught. Jesse's right. He can't keep getting away with it.
The show is absolutely incredible. I never liked it because of explosions or cussing or violence, the story is brilliantly told and exceuted and it's the first time in a long time that I'm invested in characters and outcomes of the show. 2 more episodes. Insane.
-
Could be why Walt re-arranges the bacon on his eggs to shape "52" because it WAS a family tradition....
Also, the color swatch thing is awesome!
The on-going theory of Walt adopting the idiosyncrasies of the people he kills (which I won't recap here, if you're a Breaking Bad fan and have the internet, you can easily find a more in-depth overview of the theory than I would hastily type up yourself) led many to think he killed Skyler and was stealing/adopting her tradition of the birthday bacon numbers. But what if, the Nazis kill her (and perhaps others in the family) trying to find the confession tape and Walt, for the first time, allows himself for the first time to take actual responsibility for the negative things that have happened as a result of his actions? (Which I would argue, up to maybe the midpoint of Ozymandias, he NEVER has.) And then he decides to take out the Nazis and Jesse to avenge her?
(Again, I think him going back for the ricin in the flashforward is important. A gun can kill anyone but it doesn't feel personal. If he wants to take out Nazis, you go machine gun, not a single dose of ricin. If its important to you to kill ONE person in a significant way, you use ricin. Walt is clearly about to do both.)
^^ Usual fanboy wankery disclaimers apply.
-
Mad Men "sucks" or "nothing ever happens on it"
Whatever. Don Draper and Walter White are cut from the same cloth. It is not a coincidence that both Mad Men and Breaking Bad have name-checked Ozymandias. Both series are about the arc of a man who starts out somewhat admirable only to see their "empire" decline - not to mention their personal downfalls. It's the time-tested story of hubris, which the Greeks were writing about thousands of years ago. Kudos to both Matthew Weiner and Vince Gilligan for updating it to the modern times. It is no less relevant today.
-
Mad Men is a beautiful painting, but it's overrated. I still really like it, but it gets away with alot of subpar bullcrap.
-
For the record, my favorite is, and always will be...Twin Peaks.
(and I do really love the Wire)
-

Mad Men is great, but has dropped off in the last couple of season. What really makes Breaking Bad great is that each season has been better than the previous one and they are on track to go out on a high note.
One other thing - apropos of nothing - I have come to the conclusion that Walt Jr. may be the best character in the whole series. He is the only one who is still pure - Walt, Skyler, Jesse, Hank, Marie, Gus, Gomez, Saul, Huell, Todd, etc.. all of them are complex-slash-fvcked up. Walt Jr. is the ultimate innocent and has provided the perfect foil to everyone else. He bored me in the first 2-3 seasons, but now I appreciate him.
-
This show has never been boring. Ever. I will miss it.

Top five for me... my favorite ever is Six Feet Under.

I think this is it. It's plain and simple. There might be 1 episode that everyone seems to think is boring [The Fly?], but really, it's a great series overall and I can't believe there are only/still 2 episodes left.
The ending of the last episode/beginning of this episode shit on so many other series finales and they are still chugging away.
Game Of Thrones might shit out character and slash them off almost on a weekly basis, but I haven't really truly cared. This last episode of Breaking Bad was insane. Seeing Gomey down I just thought "Whoa."
-

Oh, I disagree completely. I think the most recent season of Mad Men is far and away the best of the entire series.
Agree up with the Twin Peaks love but it came off the rails midway thru season 2. Six Feet Under was good but I don't understand people who claim it was the best show of all time.
Game of Thrones I won't even watch.

Game Of Thrones is entertaining, but I've gotten bored and it only took 3 seasons. It's pretty much a slasher film. No one's safe and you're almost watching just to see who will die instead of seeing who will win.

I rather like GOT primarily because Peter Dinklage owns his part and it has some of the strongest female characters on TV right. Just how much of a bad ass is Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen , yes the dragons help but...
If you are looking for messed-up, then "Hit Or Miss" currently on Netflix is pretty high on that scale. Starring Chloe Sevigny it's definitely not one you want to watch with children around. It's created by the same guy behind the original UK Shameless and State of Play. I watched all six episodes in a marathon...
Speaking of the the UK version of Shameless, I recently finished watching all it's season. While the first when James McAvoy is the probably the best and well worth seeing, the remaining seasons are hit and miss but it never shy's away from being shameless. Because UK TV contracts are done season by season, many new characters came and went through out it's run.
-
What's your favorite show of all time?
I think it's hard to compare shows of different types (dramas, comedys, etc.) against each other. Mad Men, The OC, and Seinfeld were simply better, IMO, at accomplishing what they wanted to do than any other program was at accomplishing what it was trying to do.
I will always have an undying love also for (in no order): In Treatment, Breaking Bad, The Hills, Deadwood, Sex And The City, Big Love, Cheers, Homeland, Gossip Girl, The Wire, Twin Peaks, The Practice/Boston Legal.
I would rank Lost up there really highly if the third season finale was the series finale. The final four seasons of that were a complete cluster though.

Completely agree about Lost. I recently watched it again and couldn't even watch the last season. It's so so bad.
Nice to see some love for In Treatment! Loved that show!
The last episode of Mad Men was just awesome.
Now back to Breaking Bad. Will we love Walt when he dies to save Jesse? How did Cruicifictorius go so wrong? Maybe it was when he killed the rapist?
-

I can't even rewatch the first seasons. Knowing where they're going with everything just points out that 95% of the early plot was either red herrings or stuff the writers decided to throw away and makes the whole experience unstomachable. Its the only show whose eventual decline in quality so tainted the early stuff I can't even sit through it.
Nice to see some love for In Treatment! Loved that show!
If anyone ever asks me what is the most underrated TV show ever, I say In Treatment. It has none of the cult following one would think it has and its concept was so, so unique. It's so crazy that a show that is basically nothing but dialogue and bottle episodes actually put out like, what, 100 episodes? You know Aaron Sorkin is ridiculously jealous he didn't come up with this concept. The depiction of therapeutic practices is way off but virtually every patient was thrilling from a character development standpoint. I really wish this would come out on blu-ray.
Will we love Walt when he dies to save Jesse?
Save him? I'm working off the assumption he figures out the Nazis didn't off him and that's his reason for returning.
How did Cruicifictorius go so wrong? Maybe it was when he killed the rapist?
That kid has a pretty solid post-FNL career going. Role in a Paul Thomas Anderson film and Breaking Bad. He's not a bad actor at all.
-
Yeah, but I wouldn't do Walter White.

Lost was a show I truly did love as a drama and it turned into what Dexter is now. Just un-fucking-bearable. I told myself I would get through the end of Dexter because he HAS to die or get caught. But with like 3 or 4 episodes left it's just so god damned boring that I stopped watching.
Dexter is so fucking bad. Peaked at season 4 and it should have stopped right then and there. He was defeated. That was it.
Back to an amazing show, Breaking Bad. I'm still trying to piece together how Walt gets an M60...

I agree with your opinion on Dexter. I spoiled the last episode for myself.

Ditto on Dexter. It was never a "Best Drama" type show but it was pretty good. Fourth season was borderline amazing and John Lithgow should have won something for that. Everything since is dreadful and I'm actively hatewatching two straight hours of Showtime between that and Ray Donovan.
Damages was another really good show that gets little pub. I'm also probably bigger on Boardwalk Empire than most. I heard Margaret basically only does cameos this season which is unnerving since she was the most complex character by far.
-
I agree with your opinion on Dexter. I spoiled the last episode for myself.
I don't even care how the show ends. At this point I want them to kill that girl he loves and his son because maybe then he'll stop. I just want him to die or everyone he loves to die or him to get caught. I can't believe how terrible this last season has been. Was the goal really for him to chase, what, 2 or 3 serial killers and thrwart their efforts within 2 or 3 episodes? So stupid. So fucking stupid. People need to take shows away from Showtime after 3 or 4 seasons. Same damn thing happened to Weeds. So terrible.

Never thought about this before, but that's spot on. Hell, Dexter lasting 4 quality seasons is probably the outlier as far as how long a show spoils on Showtime.

Need to catch up on the last episode. Seeing Walt bitch up in the shootout was priceless. I still think Jesse not being able to go truly apeshit over Brock was a let dow. He was on his way to just go all out and be *EL-P voice* full retard.

Woke up in the middle of the night CERTAIN that I figured it out...and that Walt is using the ricin on HIMSELF to end it all. Went to bed so excited to tell my wife in the morning...

He poisons one of Jesse's cigarettes which for some reason Skyler comes into possession of and Walt was the reason she started smoking again. It actually ties together nicely.

ok i gotcha; and that's perfectly reasonable. i think i have to laugh a little when Walt goes from the hardcore meth cook to the squirmiest muthafucka ever when it comes down to situations like these. Jesse got more heart though, IMO.

Heisenberg is just a facade. That's why it took me so long to buy into Walt being a badass. Inside, he really isn't. He tries and thinks he can outsmart everyone. Interesting to see everything falling apart here at the end.
He can't keep getting away with it

i refuse to read any of this thread . . . because i am only on episode four or five or something from season one. hated episode two and thought i was not going to like it, but it grows so quick on you. god when he confronted those older kids who were making fun of his son, in the clothing store, and he stepped on the kids leg, pinning him to the ground . . . was so awesome beyond awesome. i just saw this

So, Breaking Bad won Best Drama last night for the first time. (Ironically, for the first half of season 5 which, IMHO, was the weakest "season" of the program aside from the first one.) And Anna Gunn won for Skyler.
Jeff Daniels winning Best Actor over Bryan Cranston and Kevin Spacey (and Jon Hamm, I guess, although its very clear at this point Emmy voters will never let a Mad Men cast member win an individual award as some backhanded compliment to the writers) has to be one of the biggest WTFs in Emmy history.
-
I was sitting on Twitter and the Emmys were littering my timeline, I saw Newsroom winning a bunch of awards over Breaking Bad and I was wondering if this season wasn't nominated because it wasn't over yet, so I assume next year Breaking Bad is going to win everything because EVERYONE this season has been incredible.
Jesus, Jesse last night. Got me right in the feels. THIS episode felt like that last one. That ending was crazy. Also, if this town is 8 miles away, how long did it take the police to respond to Walts phone call? He couldn't have been all that far.... Although, I guess, he has $100,000 on him, so he could have just bought that bartenders car and left...........Ah, maybe that is the car he shows up with at the beginning of the season...

That appears to be AMC's strategy in splitting up Mad Men's final season. Send out half a season of Mad Men against the juggernaut that will be the second half of Breaking Bad's final season in 2014, then at the 2015 Emmy's hope Mad Men/Hamm/Moss win career-achievement awards for their walk-off a la Sopranos.

All I know is a ton of shit needs to happen in 45 minutes next week... and once again, poor Pinkman. WOW.

I felt gutted when they showed Jesse in the car. I'll admit, I didn't really care for Brock and his mom [don't even remember her name] nothing personal, just thought it was some filler stuff for Jesse. My god. Him in the car. Bashing his head against the window. God damn it. I CARED SO MUCH.
What's almost worse is what you don't see. Brock coming out and finding his mom and being all alone. God damn it.

I took that more as a "if you pull a stunt like that again, we'll take out the kid next."
-
Yeah. My thoughts exactly. Sometimes Jesse is so smart and others so stupid. They put a picture of them in the lab! Duh, what did you think was going to happen to her if you tried to escape?
Robert Forster is the vacuum salesman. Awesome.
I was thinking this morning, how much of this is because of Walt's choice in Saul as an adviser? Todd...that's all Saul. But, then again, who would Walt have been able to find on his own?
-
What's almost worse is what you don't see. Brock coming out and finding his mom and being all alone. God damn it.

Think that was more like "We didn't kill him, so we have something else to take from you if you try to escape again." Even though the kid is sure to be taken to a foster home or something.
-

He needed Saul's sleeziness. Saul got his hands pretty dirty for Walt to get away with a lot of this.
So, the ricin pill is for the Shwarz? And the M60 for the nazis? At this point the nazis are under the impression that Walt is gone for good, right?
Remember when Walt tells Jesse they are going to cook until the barrel of methlamine is all gone....Funny how Todd brings that up to his Uncle Jack. The heir to the throne!

M60 for the Nazis, ricin for himself just in case?

Maybe. Can't the ricin take days to hit someone though?

don't think so... that's how he killed the Mexican drug lord dudes, right?
-
That was Gus. He never used the ricin.
-
The ricin is ostensibly for the Schwartzes (as somebody pointed out, poison is personal). I think we can all agree that Walt doesn't live out the final episode. I am more interested in what happens to Pinkman.
-
Wow did the final episode of Dexter suck...

Wow did the final episode of Dexter suck...
The stakes were never higher! Dexter's behavior cost him the things he has cared about most... for the last 5 episodes. For the first 7.5 seasons, he didn't care about them at all.
If Dexter had just ended after season 4, think how much better remembered this show would've been. It totally cliffbombed after season 4.

I stopped watching like 4 or 5 episodes ago and I called how it was going to end. Dexter kills that lady and her son, someone he cares about dies, he lives happily ever after with his homicidal lover. So lame. My friend asked me if I wanted to know how it ended, I said if he doesn't die or get caught I don't care. He told me anyway.
Imagine the final scene of the series being him standing in the bathroom with Harrison in a pool of blood crying and looking at Ritas dead body in the tub. Boom.
Anyway, Breaking Bad - I'm thinking what more can Walt put Jesse through? I still want Jesse to come out on top. He seems to be the only one who has really lost everything. If Walt loses everything I will not and have not sympathized.

OMG. I hope so. Their uppity bs has been annoying since the beginning of the show. Plus, why would they show them again?
I want Jesse to live, bitch!
Also want Walt to kick it.

I wanted Jesse to live as well, but at this point he'd live a life of nothing but misery.

Deus ex Charlie Rose.
-
It seems to me, Walt had decided to turn himself to protect his family, the whole leaving the call open to be traced. But, the appearance of them set him off, because they slighted him over his involvement with the company.
-
And we all know you do not slight WW!

My only problem with the ricin: how in the hell is he going to get near anyone enough to poison them? Everyone we mentioned here that could be the recipient wouldn't let White within 100 feet of them, let alone take a drink or something he's offering. Who is that dumb?
Not saying it won't happen...just pointing out that you have to get really close to someone that either trusts you enough to take food you're offering or sneakily enough that you can dose them without them being aware. With how high profile he is right now, that's tough.
-
I think the ricin is for him.
-
I think the ricin is for him.
Why would you poison yourself with something that causes agonizing symptoms for close to a week?
-
Maybe it's a fall back in case he gets caught? I'm with you...that makes less sense, especially when a bullet would do the same thing. But if he's caught without a gun, hiding ricin on your is a good bit easier.
I think one thing is clear...I have no clue what I'm talking about.

Could send it in a package labeled from Skyler, Flynn and Holly for all their help....or something.
Don't forget he wouldn't let Jesse touch the ricin with his bare hands because that could poison him as well. So, maybe he could just............................rub it on their skin lol
-
"Look Walt, you're a sociopath and a wanted murderer, so I won't drink that cup of tea you're offering me. I will, however, allow you to give me one of your world famous shoulder rubs."

Feel the Heisenburn.

Different kind of dignity in offing yourself with a gun vs. poison.

You've won the internet! Congratulations!

The dialogue of Newsroom is pretty fucking good. I don't think there's been a show like that for a while now that has its own style of writing except for maybe a few comedies here and there. I could see Breaking Bad winning a whole lot more awards. They've played everything right by how the story starts and ends so far.

Its hard to take The Newsroom seriously until Aaron Sorkin decides women can have IQs above 80 at some point.
-
So, I'm re-watching the first season and have the following observations:
1. No high school chemistry department is going to have Hydroflouric Acid around, let alone sitting on metal shelving. That is serious serious stuff. And when the ceiling collapses, no person would be standing under that, especially not a chemistry teacher who is supposed to know that even the most miniscule drop of it will eat your skin off something awful.
2. Wouldn't they have had Jesse and/or Walter's fingerprints from the respirator? Walter would have been fingerprinted to work for the school system and Jesse has probably been arrested before.
I realize I should suspend this bullcrap, and just enjoy the show, but those two things bothered me.

Eh whatever. I still like the show a lot in terms of its dialogue. Granted some of the characters need to tone down on that overdone smart talk like Neil. He kinda gets annoying. That chick, Mac, gets a bit annoying with it, too. Since Olivia Munn is hot, it helps with her character on the show. Charlie's funny enough to he dopesn't need it.
-
Didn't they bring up that Jesse was some kind of fake thug who only got in trouble when he was a kid? So they never really had anything on him? Isn't that a thing? Or was that Combo...
-
One of the many problems with S2 of News Room was a lack of Jane Fonda. Stole the entire end of the season.
-
Then get it back!! /fade to black
-
Best....show....ever.....
Couldn't have asked for a better ending.
-
Including Badger and Skinny Pete was icing on the cake, yo.
-
From a pure "how well pulled off was this episode" element, last night paled in comparison to To Hajillee and Ozymandias.
I thought it was interesting how much Walt was shot in the background in scenes and people walked right past him. Almost like he was dead and a ghost already.
The final shot of him reminiscing about the meth lab and dying there all blissfully didn't really do it for me.
I still think people who are hyped that Jesse lived or got away or whatever really are missing the entire point of the show.

I liked the ending. Everything was tied up. How ironic was it that Walt was shot by a device that he created and that eventually led to his own death?
I wasn't hyped on Jesse living, I was a big fan of his reaction to Walt sliding him the gun. Walt wasn't giving Jesse what he wanted because he was going to die regardless. The one final thing Walt wanted Jesse to do and he turned around and stopped being his bitch.
I was a fan. The anticipation was killing me towards the end. Lord.
-
How ironic was it that Walt was shot by a device that he created and that eventually led to his own death?
Whoa, I took it that that was totally intentional. Walt clearly had no "what I do after I kill these Nazis" gameplan, I assumed he went in there fully expecting to die in the "shootout." He was humming a song about someone coming back to El Paso for revenge and getting killed while he built it.
The only deviation from his plan that I thought was him deciding to save Jesse at the last second.

bingo. he planned to die.
-
The ricin for lydia was amazing.
And the Schwartzes....making them his bitches for all eternity. Forever they will be looking over their shoulders. And all while they do his bidding. I think this was the most masterful stroke of the whole episode.

was stoked to see their cameo

That makes sense. After seeing the shape Jesse was in he figured he should save him.

so when are they going to put the last eight episodes on Netflix so I can see it?

That whole series ended right. I think Dexter could've learned a thing or two on how to end a series. Anyways, Lydia got what she deserved completely, she was a cunt. Fuckable but a complete cunt.

Exactly. Every villan after Lithgow was shitty.
