The bill would distribute up to $1,200 to Americans in the form of a one-time direct deposit, $2,400 for couples, and $3,000 for family of four.
So families of 3...Gov't is saying you should have had more kids
-
Sadly, pay off debt
-
Space is going to be outraged
-
And a family of 6?
-
And a family of 6?
What I'd do... is see if you can convince two of your kids to get married to one another
then you could bag $5400!
-
I think the details are yet unknown really
But depends on income and you get $500 per child
So maybe 4 person fam would be $2400 plus $1000 but depends on income
-
I think the details are yet unknown really
this is true...details are not availble yet

well there is some debt to pay down as well (lot of it at 0%, but would just rather it be gone then looming out there)
Can't really buy concert tickets or make vacation plans
Some money has to go into needed car/home repairs
Kids keep growing so some shoes and clothes too
The Airstream Bathroom needs a makeover

Not getting one.
because you are a bot?
-
Not getting one.
because you are a bot?
Because it appears there's a (EDIT) $198k/couple limit after which you don't even get a reduced check. But yes, bot income.
-
However, the payments would start to phase out for individuals with adjusted gross incomes of more than $75,000, and those making more than $99,000 would not qualify at all. The thresholds are doubled for couples.
-
Space is going to be outraged
Just missed the household cutoff for getting one, but as long as we both get to keep our jobs, not at all outraged.

Yeah, agreed. I'm in healthcare with zero chance of this impacting anything other than an annual bonus so I can't get bent over this at all. I don't really need it.
-
This seems kind of unfair to the go-getters who made more money in 2019 and who already filed their taxes:
The phase-out for top earners will be done using 2019 tax returns or 2018 returns if the taxpayer in question hasn’t filed their 2019 taxes yet.
Note: I haven't filed my taxes, so this is not me whining.
-
Oh, I just realized our adjusted gross income may be below the cutoff. Will have to check.
But anyway, why are they sending Americans cash? Shouldn't it be tied to job loss? Is the point that they just want us to spend more money to try to keep the economy afloat?
-
Is the point that they just want us to spend more money to try to keep the economy afloat?
yes
-
Oh, I just realized our adjusted gross income may be below the cutoff. Will have to check.
Oh, that's interesting especially if they'll use my 2018 figure instead of 2019 if my tax guy hasn't sent it off yet.
I do think this should be a bit more tied to local economies. $200k in Richmond is a significantly different amount of money than $200k in DC which is a significantly different amount of money than $200k in Vansmack Country.
-
Also so people don’t start burning and looting
-
Space is going to be outraged

Correction: Will be getting some stimulus money, so won't be looting and burning.
Not sure that I'll be spending it all though. My daughter can no longer nag my wife into taking her on Saturday shopping sprees, and I'm likely to drink down my beer supply rather than go shopping for more.
-
Now we have details...
Direct payments: Americans will receive a one-time direct deposit of up to $1,200, and married couples will get $2,400, plus an additional $500 per child. The payments will be available for incomes up to $75,000 for individuals and $150,000 for married couples. This is true even for those who have no income, as well as those whose income comes entirely from non-taxable, means-tested benefit programs, such as Social Security.
Obviously some of the means-tested stuff is not in here
So since most of you live in the DMV and top these caps...likely getting very little
But you likely have a mortgage?
The bill would allow homeowners with federally backed mortgage loans to request loan forbearance—that is, delayed payment—for an initial period of 180 days, and that forbearance could be extended for another 180-day period if necessary.
Although, technically this is not a 'deal' at all, just pushes out payments without penatiles, but you still cover the interest crrued durring that time...Meaning, overtime you spent more money to get that 6 month break. But six months of not paying your mortgage would likely help people create a nice nest egg/saftey net or pay down other high interest loans
Hopefully not create a rush to by a new Harley or SeeDoo
-
So delayed payments, not skipped payments. So you can skip this month and pay double next month with interest? Sounds like a trap.
-
interest continues to accrue during forbearance, putting payments on ice will cause debt to grow rather than diminish
I wouldn't say it's a trap, but should only be used if you can't make the payments, (as in the end you pay more)
not so you can blow the money supporting your favorite TikTok weblebrity
-
I guess the mortgage payment delays are there to help folks who aren’t eligible for the payout? I guess that’s good.

Check your tax statements. Those numbers are adjusted gross income, which is significantly less than gross salary.
Most people in the DMV make less than those limits...the median household income in Fairfax is 122K, Arlington is 104K, Montgomery is 108K, and DC is 85K. And the adjusted gross would be significantly less.
-
have you ever even heard of this guy...Rep Thomas Massie KY
potentially jeopardizing passage of $2T stimulus package!
Already has my ire with statements like this
Thomas Massie @RepThomasMassie
Universal vote by mail would be the end of our republic as we know it.
-
Massie's stunt also caught the eye of Donald Trump, who said Massie should be expelled from the GOP for his move.
Massie, for his part, has been downplaying COVID-19 and calling out the social distancing measures put in place to stop its spread...
"The greater harm to society is the public’s unquestioning acceptance of the unchecked authority of governments to force private behavior and disrupt economies," Massie tweeted on March 16, as the virus was starting to grow in the United States. "When this is over, I fear FDR's internment of Japanese-Americans is going to look like a 'light touch.'"
Dude is comparing the stay at home to the internment of Japanese-Americans!
-
I just don’t see this stupidity in other places on our globe
In Argentina there is a massive stay at home order and everyone is on board..you don’t have voices denying science..or saying let the old all die so my kid can go to school and I don’t have to be around my lame wife working at home..if there is complaining it’s that government officials aren’t doing enough!
It’s making me wonder if I have underestimated the stupidity of the American people? How is that possible?
I mean this shit is embarrassing

hopefully your plans for the check including paying back anything you owe the bank - because they're going to help themselves to your check anyways:

I’ll play devils advocate on this one — if my bank account is overdrawn a hundred dollars and I get a $1200 paycheck, obviously my bank account will display $1100 as the bank makes themselves whole. Why should this be different?
And furthermore, wouldn’t a bank have to create a mechanism to do this? Taking a negative balance (how they mark your debt) and adding the new monies to it is their process for balancing the books. How does a bank document that you have this $1200!amount in your account and also now a second line item for your debt? What banking system is set to do that? It’s de facto creating a second account for anyone with a debt.

That is not what I took away from Sweets article.

I'm really stunned that not getting a stimulus check hasn't turned into a status symbol. Like where are all the ballers on social media posting like #200kLife or #NoStim or #StimSquadGoals? Like isn't telling people you didn't qualify for a stimulus check the strongest flex in years?
-
I hear you but free money....people dig that shit..even rich people
It is pretty flexy
And living in Richmond
-
I hear you but free money....people dig that shit..even rich people
the current administration was build on getting free money to rich people. took a global pandemic and some folks on the Hill who could see beyond their corporate overloads to Big Picture, to get anyone in DC to contemplate pushing some money down the chain.

used turbo tax (for like 8 years and the same exact bank account)
The deposit, planned for yesterday, was delayed for “several million” people who used popular services like H&R Block, Jackson Hewitt and TurboTax to file their taxes last year, according to The Washington Post. The issue? The IRS didn’t have their direct deposit information on file.
although this may be the reason
If you filed a 2018 and/or 2019 return and neither one had a refund coming, the IRS will mail you a stimulus check. The same holds true if these returns had a refund which was sent as a check.
I owed last year...Federal Tax Due: $31
So guess I'm getting the one with donnies signature on it

I had plans to use the check (if it ever comes) on paying our taxes.
However, we had an emergency plumbing issue last week that set us back $2K+. Also got some pre-existing plumbing problems done since they were here. Both plumbers were so unmasked and my wife liked one of them so much she shook his hand as her departed.
No symptoms yet and our plumbing is performing great. So that's where our check is going. If we get it.

You have to enter your address in ALL CAPS.
From what I read elsewhere you also need to match your most recent tax returns address nomenclature perfectly. If you listed it as "123 MAIN ST." on your taxes, "123 MAIN ST" or "123 MAIN STREET" will not work. People with unit #s add an extra level of confusion.
Basically try it every way possible.

Oh God man. My company has about 5,000 CNAs/PCAs who make like $9/hour (MoCo excepted) and at any given time 15% are unbanked. I got really into the weeds last year around financial services models that fit this community (and hopefully led to increased retention) so I could bore you straight to sleep on this topic for like an hour.

I'm talking about guys like Space and Hatch... not people that have zero net worth.
I don’t want to speak for either of them but I believe the majority of “non-zero net worth” people who are getting the cards are because (1) they owed the last two years and therefore the IRS has no bank routing on file or (2) they’ve changed banks in the last year, not a lack of a bank account.

I haven't owed or changed bank accounts...but my issue stems from my company changing payroll providers in 2018....so the IRS got w2's from two providers, even though the new provider had the full year's income. So I got a $8k tax bill in Feb this year! I've got the documentation to legitimately dispute that and a number of my coworkers who had the same issue were easily able to straighten it out.
But, I wasn't done when all the checks were going out...So I gotta assume my account was tagged?
Also, I convert all my paychecks to IMP giftcards (Think of all the FWB points!) so no need for a bank
Nice one...just caught on the re-read
