Seeing Inner City live in 2001 was a truly memorable performance...

It looks good but if they are trying to attract a somewhat nationwide crowd it's kinda lacking in comparison to Ultra at the WMC. I dig the 'Detroit sound' but they should try to go beyond Simian Mobile Disco and Kraak and Smaak for larger name diversity.

Movement doesn't want to be Ultrafest... two very different festivals, on purpose.  it's sorta like saying "the line-up for pitchfork fest look good, but they really need to add lady gaga and the black eyed peas."

And there are people who travel to Detroit both nationally and internationally... And it's seems kinda silly to add a bunch of name brand DJs in order to attract some more "beautiful people" seeing as Detroit is not exactly known as a swanky party town.  Much more suited for chin scratchers....

Besides they in the past they have booked the likes of Deadmau5, I'm guessin' at this point they are a little out of their price range.

I'd go for the chance to see Model 500 live and doubt that the vast majority of the people attending Ultrafest have ever heard of them.

funny: i used "chin-scratchers" in my original reply, but edited it out.  i thought it too pejorative, as if no one is there to dance.

detroit techno: music to cross your arms to.

Silly Rabbit people dance to Detroit Techno, i've even been known to twitch a muscle or two on occasion....

Along the likes of your Pitchfork festival analog, just like the indie beard squads flying in for it, the chin scratchers are the ones like to fly in for this one...

As someone that would fall more in the 'chin scratcher' than 'beautiful people' category.
I love everything from Ellen Allien and Laurent Garnier to latest dubstep remix by 16 bit and Skream.
The lineup isn't enough to book a flight and it isn't anywhere near as good as Ultra/WMC.
Kid Sister is playing at DEMF, in context that's up there with Lady Gaga.
The non-Detroit more mainstream acts could be better at DEMF.

The Pitchfork reference also doesn't really work. Because Ultra is more like Austin City Limits Fest if it was during SXSW.

The Detroit techno 25 years party at WMC on Thursday alone is just about as good as the DEMF (and cheaper) - Carl Craig, Juan Atkins, Theo Parrish, Kenny Dixon Jr. (aka Moody Man), Kevin Saunderson, Kenny Larkin *live, Stacy Pullen, Kyle Hall, Monty Luke + Very Special Surprise Guests!
