Take it from Freely, Free Solo is the best movie of the year. If it doesn't win the Oscar for Best Documentary, they should quit giving out the award.

Not for the weak-hearted/stomached but I just saw A Prayer Before Dawn about a British guy that gets thrown into a Thai prison and has to fight his way out. It is among the most intense and visceral movies I've ever seen. The depictions and visuals of male bodies are unreal (and please let's not go for the obvious homophobic jokes) and I am in awe of the director being able to set up some of the shots.

Saw this last night and ditto on everything Relaxer said. I don't think i every want to go to Thailand.

Watched some older films this weekend:
What We Do In The Shadows - really funny and quirky. Love their vampire take on things.
The Endless - Apparently there is also a companion film to this. Really strange, but I liked it. Will have to watch this again.
The Loved Ones - Fucking brutal psycho David Lynch shit with some Evil Dead mixed in.

Thomasin McKenzie is unbelievable in it. Great young talent.

El Royale was decent. 2nd half falls somewhat flat. Hunter Killer was stupid fun. Recommend it to anyone who enjoys good schlock.

Was curious about her...and stumbled across this new flick she has a minor role in
getting the band back together and adding some big names to the mix

Top Gun: Maverick is an upcoming American military action drama film
It is the sequel to Top Gun (1986), intended to be the second installment in the Top Gun film series, and stars Tom Cruise, Miles Teller, Val Kilmer, Jennifer Connelly, Glen Powell, Jon Hamm and Ed Harris among others. It will be released on June 26, 2020

Cast
Tom Cruise as Captain Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, a flight instructor
Miles Teller as Bradley Bradshaw, a pilot trainee, and the son of Maverick's late partner Nick "Goose" Bradshaw
Val Kilmer as Commander Tom "Iceman" Kazansky

After Tony Scott's suicide, the sequel's future remained in question. However, producer Jerry Bruckheimer remained committed to the project, especially given Cruise's and Kilmer's interest.

so if this does well...is the 3rd installment the Iceman Cometh

BBC ranks best foreign language films

10. La Dolce Vita (Federico Fellini, 1960)
9. In the Mood for Love (Wong Kar-wai, 2000)
8. The 400 Blows (François Truffaut, 1959)
7. 8 1/2 (Federico Fellini, 1963)
6. Persona (Ingmar Bergman, 1966)
5. The Rules of the Game (Jean Renoir, 1939)
4. Rashomon (Akira Kurosawa, 1950)
3. Tokyo Story (Yasujirô Ozu, 1953)
2. Bicycle Thieves (Vittorio de Sica, 1948)
1. Seven Samurai (Akira Kurosawa, 1954)

seen about half of these, but will have to get #8, 6, 5 and 3 in the queue

I love Wong Kar-wai's Chunking express (#56), but I'll have to watch ITMFL (#9) again as I can't remember it being a memorable movie?
Never even heard of Happy Together 1997 Lai and his boyfriend, Ho, arrive in Argentina from Hong Kong, seeking a better life.
Asian homosexual romance in the 90's...waaay ahead of it's time

Seen all of that top ten. 400 Blows remains possibly my favorite film of all time.
