At City Sports in Chinatown,  Rock the Red Caps shirts are for sale.  2 for $5.  That's right, 2.50 a piece.

Any of the 4 best teams in the West (Detroit, Dallas, Anaheim, San Jose) are heads and shoulders above anyone in the east. Maybe Montreal can make a series of it against the weakest of the Western bunch, but no way an Eastern Conference team -- especially the porcelain Penguins -- are beating any of those 4 in a seven-game series.

my point is there is a lot of hockey to be played before the finals. lots of time for injuries, players to get hot, cool off, ect

and even once the series starts, they still have to play the games

One of the toughest tricks of this profession is the deadline day trade breakdown story.

It's really a no-win proposition. Everyone wants to talk about who got the better end of a deal, but at the same time, they realize that the winner -- if there is one -- won't become clear for months, maybe years. Best case scenario: The knee-jerk reactions provide plenty of fodder for fan banter.

Yet, here I am again, strangely compelled to talk about who made the savviest moves as the clock wound down. And really, why not? Last-minute reinforcements have been critical to the late runs, and early playoff success, of several clubs.

Here, then, is my ranking of the most impactful acquisitions (so far) of Deadline Day '08:

1A and B: Adam Foote (photo) and Ruslan Salei:  The addition of these hard rock defenders didn't generate much of a splash on deadline day, but their physical presence clearly re-booted the battered Avs blueline. Both are eating up more than 20 minutes a night, and their calm, consistent performance has played a large role in the postseason success of Jose Theodore (Thursday night, notwithstanding). It was primarily the work of Foote and partner Kent Sauer that knocked the starch out of Minnesota's Marian Gaborik, limiting him to just one assist in their first round series.

Tonight has shown using Alan Muir's insightful analysis to back up your homerism is like having Rev. Wright as your spiritual adviser.

Detroit 8 - Avs 2 and series sweep.

Let's see how Alan Muir's #1a and #1b 'Most Impactful Acquisitions' do?
 Foote +/- -3
 Salei +/- -3

You really should change that to someone who
really doesn't know a bit more than the "porn star".

i much as i love the ass-whuppin the wings gave to the boy-loving avs, its bad for the caps:

huet and jose theodore are the only decent free agent talents out there, and theodore only completed one second round game. guess who the money's gonna be thrown at?
the caps have two super euro prospects, but with ollie retiring, they're faced with a big-money long-term deal with huet or relying on rookies in goal next year.

aanyhoo, fuck philly, fuck the avs, LETS GO RED WINGS!

I'm rooting for whoever is playing the pittsburgh penfags, unless it's the Philly flying turds, in which case *I hope the stadium implodes during game 1 of the series.

*not really, but you get my point.

A Pen-tard calling other fans bandwagoners!
 Too funny!

I think it's safe to say they won't be crying. Using logic, I know, I know ... you Pen-tards hate logic, the definition of a bandwagoner is someone that doesn't care unless the team is winning.

However Crosby crying in the next round is a guarantee.
