depending on what the new album sounds like i might give the monkeys a chance, but they are pretty dreadful live... one of the worse discrepancies i've ever experienced between how good a band sound on record vs. how disappointing their live show is.
I thought they sounded perfect live, it's just theyre very lackluster live. Seen then twice, the music was spot on but it was just like listening to the record but with fancy lights. They need to spruce up their live act. On top of that I could never understand a damn thing Alex says between songs.

you'll note that i didn't say "vs. how bad they sound live" - i said "vs. how disappointing their live show is."  the disappointment comes from listening to the album, thinking that these guys are going to tear it up on stage like the rock'n'roll bad boys that they sound like... only to find a bunch of stiffs who seem to resent their audience.

they do indeed sound fine on stage, but i want something more than mediocre performance of the album.  i could stay at home for free and listen to the CD, while drinking much cheaper beer.

This might be too big to be a 930 show, but how about the Monsters of Folk?

Broadcast are putting together a fall tour. A DC show would be great.

I'm pretty sure it's also safe to say that ixkpd-bk seconds this.

You would be correct.

If fucking Hercules and Love Affair can play 930, so can Broadcast. (No, they didn't sell out the Black Cat in 2005, but they've only built their following since then. Also, the new album will be major hipster buzz, I'm sure.)

--

Also, Seth can we get ESG at the 930? They played a sold-out show at Le Poisson Rouge in NYC back in January, and I'm sure they'd love to get a DC gig on the books, too. It's been a long while since they've played a DC show, and I bet people would turn out. :)

There are rumblings/rumors of the Manic Street Preachers coming to the states this fall.

I'd pretty much do anything to get them here....

seth, since you are all powerful . . . can you make skinny puppy get back together and play the album "rabies" "too dark park" and "last rights"?  they can make it a three night show or a mega marathon one night epic adventure.  their choice, of course.

How about David Gray in the fall? According to Pollstar a few days might work before a show in Boston, or after NYC before CN.

Also, any luck with NIN???  ;D

Better yet, to really serve up a nice plate of steaming shit, book MBV at the acoustically perfect Lyric Opera House in BALTIMORE!  ;D ;D ;D

As Wml7 would say, 'That would be great, Seth! Just GREAT!"
