Well, if the Replacements rumor is true for Coachella, I'm thinking about it.  Though I'm sure they'd end up doing a full blow tour, as I'm sure they all need money (maybe not Chris Mars, who I'd LOVE to see with them...)

Seriously, camping at something like that is more draining than you can ever imagine. When I went in '07, I ended up leaving on sunday morning because I couldn't take another second of being out in that heat.
Simply put, if you aren't prepared to spare no expense, don't go to Coachella.
another veteran of '07 saying the same thing: camping = risk of major discomfort and very little sleep if the weather is anything like it was that year.  sonick, sounds like the weather was OK the year that you went... cool.  but allowing people to camp in the 110+ degree weather we had amounted to a human rights violation.  there is no shade.  you will burn. what willl you do between 6:30 am when the sun turns your tent into an oven, and noon when the gates open?  you'll be exhausted b/c of lack of sleep, but it'll be too hot to sleep anywhere.  did i mention no shade?  ok, maybe you could try crawling under a car.

renting a car and getting a hotel in indio or somewhere else nearby should be considered part of the expense of going to coachella (could be done for as little as ~$800, split that between 2).  otherwise, you're taking a gamble on whether or not the festival will be bearable.  seriously, if azaghal - arguably the biggest music fanatic here - decided that skipping a third of the festival was less painful than another day in that heat.

Your status as a concert addict is now in serious doubt.

I've done that, although not at Coachella.  Can't say I recommend it.

Well the thing with Bonnaroo which I'm sure a lot of you have been to, is that pretty much you have to wake up at 6am every day.  It's so freaking hot by that time you can't sleep.  By that time you can go wander around in center roo and so forth.  I don't know how Coachella is set up but if it's like Bonnaroo I don't see the problem with camping.

I went to Coachella last year and didn't think the heat was that bad. I didn't camp though.

However, that being said, I am going back in 2009, and definitely camping to be with my friends.

I think i'll be alright. If i'm tired enough, i'll be able to fall asleep.

Not having any shade was a killer. We were so exhausted by the time gates opened on the first day, the first thing we did was pass out for a good hour at the first shaded spot we came across. We were feeling pretty sick from the heat by then too but that kinda took care of itself.

Some early confirmations, from interviews and myspace calendar/blog entries:

Buraka Som Sistema
White Lies
N.A.S.A.
Tinariwen
Fleet Foxes
DJ Luis Segura
DJ Hipnotic Starr (claims to be playing the campground with Mutayor)
DJ Gina Turner
DJ Morales
The Airbourne Toxic Event

--

Fleet Foxes and N.A.S.A.! Off to a pretty good start, I'd say.

(Just listened to Buraka Som Sistema, sounds like a Portuguese/Baltimore dance-hybrid that I definitely can get behind!)
Woof.

A friend of mine was just asked to be The Morning After Girls new guitar player. Can't say any more about that in a public forum but he's just on the verge or officially taking them up on their offer. Anyway, according to him, apparently, The Morning After Girls are scheduled to play the festival; so I guess you can consider them as being unofficially on the bill.

The Presets are on for Coachella. The Killers look to be in the bag for headlining Friday night.

Think that Smiths reunion thing might happen at Coachella? Morrissey's got dates lined up before AND after Coachella, so...hmm maybe?
Woof.

Do they have to have at least one throw-away headliner every year?

RHCP last year, Jack Johnson this year and now the Killers?

Ugh.
