It's certainly way overrated.  Americans aren't supposed to be famous for beer anyway.  Buy Canadian.   If you gotta drink U.S, get Rolling Rock.  It tastes better than Samuel Jackson, plus you save 3 bucks.

for good american brew, you must go to total wine in the burbs.  it was called total beverage at one time.  the best american i've had, though, was from that so-so restaurant, that people wait two hours for just to eat at--what a joke--called sweet water tavern.  they have a beer that comes around once a year, usually about feb. or march called saint nick's weizenbock(sp?).  when they first released it, it has such a high alcohol content that two down and start acting silly at the table.  and best in taste for usa, i personally believe as well.

i love rolling rock.  has anyone had the light version?  worth buying or worth wasting?

If you don't like Rock, get Iron City.

Though anything Canadian qualifies for best-near-local brew.

why doesn't this site have a spell checker?  everything else does, nowadays.  even happy meals come with 'em by now.  i go back and scan what i write before i send it, and maybe again, because we know about being so critical.  whatever happened to my punishment time from miss maple?  gosh magic mirror, how i miss it.  then i read what i've written in the actual thread itself, for some reason . . . just to find a mistake.  or perhaps they do it on purpose, to weed out the white from the trash.

dear lord, i am addicted to the spell checker.

If you looking for good, cheap beer with strength + taste, drink any 40 ounce malt liquor, or better yet, Mickey's big mouth.  Tom Waits even sings it's praise!

Haven't read the thread but saw that we might be discussing the quality of US beers? If that's the case, then for what it's worth, here you have a foreigner who thinks that this country has some excellent beers. Sierra Nevada is one of my favorite beers. Also, I remember a locally brewed beer in North Carolina that was simply excellent.

Sierra Nevada is a lot like Anchor Steam and other trendy brews.  These are likely imbibed by bourgeoise types.  Even with their high price and fancy label, they're no comparison to anything from Holland/Germany.  Also, they are not meant for mass consumption, therefore they don't really count.  I stand by my statement: Americans aren't known for their beer.

Note: I'd still rather have a Rolling Rock than a Guiness.

Who made you the ultimate source on beer? It's all opinion, dude?

I like Sierra, and I'm certainly not bourgeous. Hell, I don't even know how to spell the word.

It's about quality, not quantity. Sure, Sierra is on the expensive end, but when you drink perhaps two beers a week, why not go for the good stuff? Doesn't make me bourgeouis.

people smoke in those shows anyway, last week at the black crowes EVERYONE was freakin smoking, and not just cigarettes! [/b]
Sonick: Must have been in the b-room cause smokin' is banned in all NYC venues: bars, restaurants, hotels...etc.  I was SO digging on fresh air last week:  I can handle drunks, brutish behavior, but burned clothing and harmed lungs are almost NOT worth the music...BTW:  I am totally curious:  What DO you stand for WalkOnBy; I've supported you, and been attacked by you; and then taken an opposing pov and you've agreed...you're a hard person to figure.  Can you enlighten us?
