Ballast Point went for a billion
Curious how they are feeling about return on that investment
I can't see anyway that was a good choice.
Love the brand, but it's never going to make that kind of money

but I agree since they are public, what is stopping one of these big guys from just eating them up, now that they have another reputable brand in their stable

In the case of ABI - just the competition authorities.
In the case of MolsonCoors, their new focus on cannabis.

another excellent read from the mad fermentationist (yes, it's related to Sapwood, but only indirectly)

How to Win Untappd (or any Online Beer Rating)

can't argue with a thing he said.

I know Space won't even discuss a brewery unless it has a 4.+ beer ratings on BA

I may not know much about beer but I do know about adroit TASTEMAKING, and I can confirm this is a good strategy.

BA is old news. I only look at the untapped scores these days.

I do agree that a 4.3 Czech Pilsner is probably more interesting than a 4.3 DIPA.

this guy put together a great site as a resource for all the breweries/brewpubs along the WO&D bike trail
http://www.bikeablebrews.com/
but on a 45 mile ride there are 10 breweries/brewpubs along the WO&D bike ...ending with Adroit
Wow...checked the site today...there are now 25 breweries within ~1 mile (9 pretty much on the trail) of the WO&D trail!

Yes...some of them are mediocre, but damn that's a lot of options on one stretch of road

New District Brewing Company
Audacious Aleworks
Mad Fox
Caboose Brewing
Bike Lane
Lake Anne Brew House
Aslin Beer Company
Beltway Brewing
Crooked Run Brewing (Sterling)
Rocket Frog Brewing Company

MP/BP/S&B used to get better beers. They no longer get Aslin. The don't get Veil (pretty sure they used to). It also seem like they used to get better out of market stuff like Civil Society that they no longer get.

i'd like to take a moment to highlight:

Ocelot Barrel-Aged Gravity Always Wins

first off, cool name bro.  guess i won't be able to use it if/when i open my brewery (not that i ever will, but one can dream...)

second, this beer sounds damn delicious.  BBA'ed barleywines are one of my favs these days.  scores on BA are high.  if someone treks out to try this, please report back.
