Chronologically in reverse...

First time seeing the Pretenders...Damn Chrissie Hynde's voice just sounds amazing.  Yeah, I would have rather heard a greatest hits show, but the new stuff rocks hard and ain't too shabby. Plus, she rocks a pair or blue jeans better than anyone else in the building.

First time seeing Carly Rae J...Nats nearly blew an 8-1 lead but held on. Many people were clearly there to see Carly Rae, and she didn't disappoint. Lots of fun, though the sound was beyond terrible.

Second time getting a puppy..wow he's quite the charmer...makes all the pee accidents bearable. Have to remember a kid is peeing their diaper until they're two, too...

Second time seeing Charley Crockett...he's good, but I think twice is enough for me.

I enjoyed the Hives as a show. Same with the opener to a lesser degree.

But the Hives don’t really have one song that moves me. Howling Pelle is a great master of ceremonies. But the songs are just standard by the numbers amped up rock and roll and while that has a place it doesn’t leave me with anything. “Come on” is a perfect example. Yes it’s enjoyable but a nothing burger.

I wanted to see the spectacle I had heard so much about, and am glad I did, but few bands have gotten so much from so little. It’s all artifice and insubstantial….at least to me. Their reputation precedes them so they don’t even have to work all that hard as they hold the audience in the palm of their hands from go.

Woof! Congrats to y'all as well!

We got our last pup when our daughter was 1. She has no memory of her first dog as a puppy or young dog. Now we have the bait that will keep her coming home to visit us for many years to come.

grateful

That was pretty much my impression last time I saw them. Entertaining...but I'm good with having seen them as many times as I have. I saw the Pretenders that night on the other hand, and though Chrissie was so not taking any shit from people using iPhones to video her, that version of the "The Wait" was absolutely scorching, as was the guitar solo during "Private Life". Though not a perfect show, it was pretty damn incredible. Love seeing them.

I did not attend this most recent Hives show but I’ve seen them twice before and that review seems like it applies to the ones I did see.

The love for The Hives make me think a lot of you didn’t get a chance to see Art Brut and that experience is truly what you’re craving (even if you aren’t aware of it).

Now there was a band that was definitely formed. (Caveat: never saw them live.)

Here is my take...the Hives put on a phenomenal live show, just nonstop rock and roll with a front man who knows how to work a crowd

Is their music life changing...nah
Did they have 1200 people responding to everything Howlin' Pelle said or did...fuck yeah
Do they have stage ninjas - hell yeah
I really like the new album and we got 6 songs, so that also made me happy

I love Come On...best two-word song out there

Pelle works so hard to keep the crowd happy...don't see that much from bands anymore

I don't think I'd ever miss a hives show if they were in town

alas, never saw art brut, so don't know what that's all about

Well you may get your wish as Pelle said they would be back in the fall….I can’t believe they wouldn’t draw well at a bigger venue

Another issue with the Hives show is they only “play” 75 minutes. Now ordinarily that’s just about enough but Pelle sure talks a lot between songs. They may have managed to play 55 minutes of actual music when you factor all the talking and the break before the encore.

I think the Viagra Boys/Hives show at the anthem would be off the hook!
